| Getting in the Castle As you head towards Kakariko again, drop by the Temple of Time to learn the Prelude of Light (a warping song to the Temple of Time) and how you can return yourself to your child form and time. Now head to Kakariko Village and climb up Death Mountain Trail (watch out for boulders) to Goron City. You'll find the place nearly completely abandoned, save one crazy, rolling Goron one level down. Stop it with a Bomb or Bomb Flower (it may take a few times to get the timing just right). Talk to the poor guy and listen to both of his stories. Your reward for living though his annoying crying sounds is the Goron Tunic. Go into Darunia's room and pull the statue. Put on the Goron Tunic and head into Death Mountain Crater. Look at the broken bridge slightly to the left of you. Hookshot to the beam over the middle of the bridge. When you walk forward you'll see Sheik who will teach you the Bolero of Fire. Turn left and go through the doorway. Climb down the really long ladder and you'll be in the Fire Temple. To the Boulder Maze Go up the stairs (watch out for the Fire Keese -- they are just like normal Keese, only they can catch you on fire) and to the left. Say hello to Darunia, then, after he leaves, go to the platform in the far left corner of the room. Step on the switch in the floor to open the door for the trapped Goron. Talk to it to get a nice tip, then open the small chest in its cell to get a key. Go back into the first room and run straight across through the locked door. Wearing the Goron Tunic, you can run across lava for a short time without getting hurt, so don't sweat it if you fall in. There are Red Bubbles to watch out for, but they will pretty much leave you alone since they are on predetermied paths. Run all the way across the bridge, then turn right. Run along the wall until you find a strange section. Bomb it open to find a door. In the door you'll find another switch, Goron, and key. Go back into the lava room and go to the bridge again. This time, run to the other side of the room. There's a tunnel with a door at the end. Another Goron and key. Go back into the lava room and, as soon as you're out of the tunnel, play the Song of Time. Climb on top of the block and go through the door. Hold up your sheld against all eight flying tiles (straight out of A Link to the Past), then get ready for your first Like-Like. Z-Target it and stay away (but close enough that it starts chasing you . . . sluggishly). When it leans over, shoot an arrow into its side, not its mouth. They only take two arrows to dispatch, but don't let them eat you up, because its your shield they are after. Kill the Like-Like to retrieve your shield if it got eaten. On the back wall is Golden Skulltula 53. Back in the lava room, go to the end of the bridge again and go through the door. Go to the far right side of the room and jump onto the grating. Climb up and kill the Keese on top before they take flight. Drop down beside the block and push it into the flame. Jump on top and ride the block like an elevator. Go through the door. In here are a couple of Torch Slugs. They are nothing to be worried about, just keep your shield up and use your sword mercilessly. Kill both of them, then jump across to the platform between the block and the switch. Push the block off the ledge, then go the floor and pull it as far as it will go. Stand on top of the block and climb the grating beside it. One level above the switch, look down over the ledge at it, hit it with an arrow or your Hookshot, then run to the grating. Climb it before the fire starts up again (I usually just barely make it, don't worry). Go through the door and you are in the ground level of the boulder maze. Getting the Megaton Hammer There are two Goron-key-switches in here, one to your left (through a door) and one to your right (not through a door). Snag Golden Skulltula 55. Once you have collected both keys -- oh yeah, and freed the Gorons -- head to the far side of the room from where you originally emerged. There is a long part of the wall that sticks out a bit; go through the door on the side of it. DO NOT even consider falling; bad idea. There's an eye switch on the wall to the right that will let you get the Dungeon Map. If you are tempted to get the hearts to your left, jump from where you first came in the room, since it's closer than anywhere else. Make your way across the room and into the Wall-of-Fire room. Walk across the platform and jump onto the grating. Suddenly a wall of fire will emerge and chase you across. Ignore the Red Bubbles and run to the bricks on the far side of the room. Once you're on bricks, you're safe. Climb up to the door on your right. You are now in the top level of the boulder room. If you fall to the floor, go back through the narrow-walkway and Wall-of-Fire room to get back up. Jump to the platform right in front of you. Kill the Torch Slug, then bomb open the strange place in the floor. Climb down the grating, step on the switch, set free the Goron, and get the key. You are actually in the room where you first fought Torch Slugs. Go back up the grating the way you came in (the Torch Slug will have reappeared; don't you love Zelda games). Cross the narrow passageway in the middle of the room and jump to the switch to your left. It opens a Goron's cage on the far side of the room. Head that way and get the small key from its cell. Get Golden Skulltula 56. Now go back into the Wall-of-Fire room (from the top level, preferably). From the door on the top-level side, run across the grating until you see a platform with a locked door to the right. Though it doesn't look like you can make it, you can actually jump to the ledge and hang there until you pull yourself up. Go through the door and you'll find yourself in a long tunnel that leads to the coolest room in the temple. Go on the left side of the room first. You might want to snipe the Fire Keese before they get to you first. You'll notice all these posts sticking out of the ground. Approach one; when you get too close, a wall of fire appears between it and its neighbor. Walk along the wall of fire until you come to a break. Take it slow. Anything that looks like it could blast fire does. There is a path through the fences of fire, just be patient until you come to the door in the middle of the room. Go through and ignore the Goron in the cell next to you -- you'll come back to him later since you need the Megaton Hammer to set him free. Go through the door and take out the Keese on this side. Go straight. Beyond the fire-spurting totem pole, you'll see a switch on the floor. Hit the switch, run back the way you came, then make a beeline for the raised area of the floor. If you don't make it before the fire comes up, no sweat, just try it again. Place a bomb at the foot of the door before opening it (remember the doors that fall on you that one of the imprisoned Gorons mentioned?). A new door will be revealed. Go through for your first fight with a Fire Dancer. It's not too difficult. Basically, you Z-Target it when it comes out of the fire in the middle of the room and sink your Hookshot into its nucleus before it spews fire everywhere. The nucleus will come out and, with your Z-Target still on, chase it around the room (run in the opposite direction to meet it halfway around the fire in the middle) and hit it with your sword. Use your Biggorn Sword, if you have it, to make this much quicker. Just keep doing this until the nucleus grows huge and explodes all over the place. Climb onto the platform in the middle and ride it up like an elevator. Don't hit the switch beside you, but climb the grating on the right. Hit the switch from above with your Hookshot then climb the vertical grating. Same as before. Go through the door. You can shoot the Fire Keese in here if you want, but you'll probably be running too fast in here for them to bother you much. Step on the switch beside you and run up the narrow spiral stairs lining the huge hole in the middle of the room (if you fall, fall left; it's better to get hit with a boulder than to fall to the beginning of the temple and climbing all the way back up). If you make it to the chest before the timer runs out, you'll be rewarded with the Megaton Hammer. You can use it as a tool or a weapon; it's also the most powerful tool in the entire game (except the Golden Gauntlets, I suppose). It's behaviorally similar to the Biggoron Sword. To the Boss Look on the walls in this room for Golden Skulltula 57. Then go back near the door you came in. There's a small, raised square in the floor. Stand on it and pound the floor with your Megaton Hammer. You'll fall a bit -- it's like an elevator, basically. On the far side of the room, hit the side of the statue with your Hammer to reveal a door. Kill the Keese and stand on the raised place and hit with the Hammer. Pick up a crate and set it on the switch at the bottom of the stairs that appear. Hit the raised part with the Hamer. Now you're back in the Fire Maze room (yay!). Behind you is a door and a rusty switch. Hit down the switch with the Hammer and go through the door. Play the Song of Time to make a blue block appear on the floor. Jump to the far side of the room, hit down the rusty switch, and free the Goron below. Don't forget the key. Climb on the blue block to go back out the door you came in. Jump onto the platform in front of you, hit the floor with the Hammer and you'll drop with it to the room where you first met Darunia. Remember what the trapped Goron in here said about dropping the pillar to the floor so you could go to the Boss' Lair? Yeah, well, congratulations. All right! Time to go kill the Boss -- ah, fooled you; we need the Boss Key. That irritates me; if I climb to the top of a castle, go through this climactic journey, get dropped a million miles right in front of Volvagia's door, and find myself armed with an awesome new weapon, I'm ready to go fight! But, no, we have to go free another Goron. Sorry about the rant. Anyway, go back into the first room in the castle, go down the steps, and turn immediately left. Knock away the totem pole with your Hammer. Go through the door and kill all the Fire Slugs and Keese to proceed. In the next room, you'll find more flying tiles, a Like-Like, and Golden Skulltula 54. In the next room you'll find another Fire Dancer. Beyond it is the final Goron and the Boss Key. Go back into the room where you found Darunia. There are faires to the right, if you need to stock up. Otherwise, go through the door to meet Volvagia. Volvagia Just as your Goron namesake said, a huge dragon is the culprit (besides Ganondorf, anyway). Jump to the middle platform with all the holes in it to get rid of her. There are two ways to kill her: 1. Hard Way: Volvagia will stick her head out of a hole; hit her with your Megaton Hammer, then your sword (the Biggoron Sword makes this go faster). Next, she will perform one of two attacks. Either she will fly around, blasting fire at you, or go to the ceiling and screech with such a high pitch that she causes rocks to rain down on you (just be nimble -- it will work for both attacks). Once you've hit her several times, she'll try to trick you by coming out of a different hole than the first one from which she spurts fire. Just hang around until you actually see her head. Hit her enough times and you'll win a new Heart Container! 2. Easy Way: The only difference between this and the hard way is that after you hit her with your sword, head to the edge of the platform. Walk slowly off the edge -- ah! They are sticky! So you can just kinda hang out there until the giant boulders and bursts of flame are gone. Otherwse, it's exactly the same. After you defeat Volvagia, the clouds over Kakarkiko Village disappear, everyone returns to Goron City, and you'll find that Darunia is the Sage of Fire. |
