I think it's because Vash and Wolfwood are just the most awesome characters ever. The underlying plot of the series is searching Vash's past to try to figure out what exactly he is. Vash, himself, is an expert gunman with a crazy bounty of $$60,000,000,000 on his head, though he'd never hurt a fly. He's a pacifist gunman . . . make of that what you will, I just laugh. He's completely serious one second, and the next he spazzing all over the place. Completely awesome. Wolfwood, Vash's foil, is a wandering priest who is the most hilarious person ever.
