Leonard L. Sweeris married Aaltain (Alice) Koel (Kuhl) (Kool) on March 31, 1883 in Missaukee County. The couple had 13 children.

Albert (1903-1985) married Gezina Edema.

Nicholas (1907-) married Ada Hockey.

Harold (1907-1975) married Bessie Koll.

Clarence (1909-) married Nellie Hocksema.

Alice, helped to start the First Christian Reformed Church on February 23, 1883, a month before she married Leonard. Alice's father, Henry koel (kuhl), donated a part of his farmland to the church. The first church building was built of logs on the land. The family attended this church. Alice's parents and her three sisters also belonged to this church.

Alice died on Tuesday September 14, 1920 at the age of 54 years, 1 month and 21 days after a 16 month illness. Both Holland and English services were conducted at her home and the Reformed Church. She was buried in Richland Township Cemetery near Lucas, Michigan. Leonard died on august 14, 1929 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 4 days and is buried next to his wife Alice
