Waltz: Basic Sequence: Part 8

The first basic sequence.
Basic Sequence:
1. First Part
2. Second Part
3. Third Part
4. Fourth Part
    Reverse/Natural Turn
    Hesitation
    Combination
    Under Arm Turn

Eighth Lesson: Sequence Practice
Here all the four parts are done sequentially in hold with a partner, with the turn component added whenever a Regular movement is done. In addition, the man starts with the Left foot forward, and so the lady is moving backward every time for the count of ‘1’.

1. Combination with Turns: Pair 2. Reverse Turn: Pair

Ninth Lesson: Lady's Under Arm Turn
This is the underarm turn for the lady. Man keeps repeating the Fourth Part as given earlier, however it is without the turns.

For counts "1" to "4" the movements are as for the First Part, beginning with the Right foot moving back for the count "1".

For count "5" move to the side with the Right foot and then swivel on about 90 degrees to the right. The man raising his Left hand and the lady’s Right hand to allow the lady to go from under the hold without disturbing each other’s postures facilitates this. Lady prepares to release the hold with her Left hand, and man lightly assists the lady to turn with his Right hand.

For the count "6" the lady takes a small step forward with the Left foot and sharply swivels on it to the right at 90 degrees. Then the next step for the count "7", is taken straightforward with the Right foot in the same direction as the man. This step is slightly long, and as soon as weight is taken on the foot swivel to the right at, 180 degrees to face the dancing partner.

For the count "8" step to the side, and for the count "9" join the feet.

For the next counts "10" to "12", it is regular and pause for the last count. In addition, during this time the partners return to the regular hold.

The lady starts this part with the left foot moving backward is the mirror image of above. However, the hold part remains same as given above.

1. Lady's Turn

2. Under Arm Turn in Pairs
Under arm Turn (Lady)
1. Right foot back
2. Left foot to the side
3. Right foot closes in to the Left foot.
4. Left foot forward
5. Right foot to the side and after stepping turn on the Right ball 90 degrees to the left.
6. Left foot forward, a small step. Moreover, after stepping turn on the Right ball 90 degrees to the left to face in the same direction as the man.
7. Right foot forward. After stepping turn on the Right ball 180 degrees to the right to face the man.
8. Left foot to the side and come square to the man.
9. Right foot closes in to the Left foot.
10. Left foot forward.
11. Right foot to the side.
12. Left foot closes in to the Right foot.

Under Arm Turn (Man)
All the steps for man are the First Part/Regular/Closed Change.

After the step ‘4’, Man begins to raise his left hand and lady’s right hand gradually above the lady’s head. Moreover, with the Right hand man begins to lead the lady into the turn. Thereafter the left hand is in the raised position, until the completion of the turn. After the completion of the turn, hold in the conventional manner.

The lady may assist the flair of her dress with the free hand during the turn.

Hint: The counts from "1" to "4" and "10" to "12" are same as in the Fourth Part given above. The counts from "5" to "9" are all forward walking and turning to one’s right such that a complete circular movement is executed. Note that when performing this circular action, the hold with the lady’s left hand and man’s right hand is released. However, the hold with the other hand is not released, which is lifted above the lady’s head to facilitate the Under Arm Turn. Similarly when the lady starts with the Left foot back, then for the counts ‘5’ to ‘9’ all are forward walking steps and continuously turning from the left (Lady’s left).

Similar is the turn when commenced with man’s Right foot forward and lady’s Left foot backward. The lady turns from the left. Man retains the hold with the Left hand when the lady is turning. During this time, the Lady may use the free hand, Left hand, to assist the flair of her dress.
