Samba: Basic Sequence: Part 1

The first basic sequence.

THE DIRECTIONS (Generally when facing): A: Centre. B: Diagonal to Centre. C: LOD (Line of Dance). D: Diagonal to Wall. E: Wall. F: Diagonal to Wall against the LOD. G: Backing the LOD or facing against the LOD. H: Diagonal to Centre against the LOD.

Note: In the diagram above the dancer is facing and is square in the direction C.

General Notes:
1. All the steps for the count of “&” (pronounced as “And”) are taken on the toes/ball or the foot with the knee of that foot bent.
2. Part weight of the body is taken on the step with the count “&”.
3. As a general rule all the steps are taken with the toes touching the floor first.
4. All the steps are taken with a “Samba Bounce”.
5. Only one foot is on the ground (the foot carrying ones body weight) at an instant for a particular count.
6. The feet point straight ahead unless otherwise mentioned in the notes below.
7. The figures starting in promenade position could be practised in counter promenade position as well.
8. All the figures/steps herein are common for the Man and the Lady. The only difference is the hold and guiding or being guided.
