Rumba: Basic Sequence 5
The first basic sequence. |
Basic Sequence: | |
1. Basic 2. Fan 3. Walk 4. Alemana 5. Basic |
6. Fan 7. Walk 8. Hockey Stick 9. Curl 10. Spiral |
This is a simply a
continuous turn and ending in an open position (Fan). But in this figure the man moves forward to end in closed position such that the whole sequence can then be repeated from a new alignment with respect to the dance hall. |
Spiral: Start Position:
Man stands with the weight on the Left foot, and turned at 45 degrees (1/8 turn)
to the right. Lady stands directly in front of the man and facing in the same
direction as the man. Her weight is on the Right foot and the Left leg is held
lightly from the front and across her Right leg. Man holds the lady’s Right
hand in his Left hand, and the hold with the other hand may be released at this
stage.
Hold: The hold with
both is the hands till the count 1, immediately after which the hold with only
the Left hand (Man) and Right hand (Lady) is maintained.
Count 1:
There is no feet movement for the man and neither for the Lady, except the
swivelling. The lady swivel 45 degrees (1/8 turn) to her left on the Right foot
to face straight ahead, and simultaneously begins to un-cross her feet.
Man’s upper body begins to turn;
however the feet do not move.
Count 2:
Man swivels to the Left at 45 degrees (1/8 turn) on the Left foot and then steps
back onto the Right foot. The lady swivels further 90 degrees (1/4 turn) to her
left and steps ahead on her Left foot. Now the lady swivel a further 135 degrees
(90 + 45) or 3/8 turn to the left on the Left foot.
Count 3:
Man replaces his weight on the Left foot and begins to adjust with the lady. The
lady steps to her side and slightly back on the Right foot.
Count 4, 1:
Man steps diagonally
forward in line with the lady. The lady likewise steps diagonally backward on to
the Left foot.
