Rumba: Basic Sequence 3a

The first basic sequence.
Basic Sequence:
1. Basic
2. Fan
3. Walk
4. Alemana
5. Basic
6. Fan
7. Walk
8. Hockey Stick
9. Curl
10. Spiral
At the very core it is a series of three forward walking steps that also curve to her left such that over the steps the lady takes a complete turn and is also able to come square to her dancing partner, if guided so.

Hockey Stick: Start Position:
The man and the lady are approximately at an angle of 90 degrees (1/4 turn), the lady is in front of man, the hold is maintained with extended arms, and with lady’s Right and man’s Left hand. The hands are almost above the Lady. Man’s weight is on the Left foot and Lady’s weight is on the Right foot, and both maintain a comfortable gap between the feet.
Open Hold: The hold only with the Left hand (Man) and the Right hand (Lady) is maintained till the count 4 after which normal hold is resumed.

Count 1:
There is no feet movement. The Lady begins to swivel to her right on her Right foot to face man.

Count 2:
Man steps Backward, into the first step of the backward basic with his Right foot. Lady moves the Left foot forward and then swivels on it to her left at 90 degrees (1/4 turn) to face in the same direction of man’s right.

Count 3:
Man replaces weight on to the Left foot and swivels to his right at 45 degrees (1/8 turn) almost as in the backward basic. Lady steps forward onto her Right foot and swivels on it and executes a 135 degrees turn (180 + 45 degrees or 5/8 turn), to her left to face man. This is almost a complete turn.

Count 4, 1:
Man steps to the side on his Right foot to adjust with the lady.  This step for the man could be placed diagonally forward or to the side or feet being together. This depends on how the man guides the lady for the last step especially after the turn such that the lady ends up directly in front and conveniently close to the man.  The lady ends with weight on her Left foot.
