Basic Sequence: Rumba: Part 8

The first basic sequence.

Please Note: This is a sequel to General: Elixir

The basic sequence needs to be practised until one is able to recognise the individual figures as having individual distinct identities. When this happens you would be able to move as you like, with the mood, the need of the situation and instance.

The two dances, Cha Cha Cha and Rumba are cousins, in the sense they share many common figures between then. The sequence given here for Cha Cha Cha too can be done for Rumba, as is and without any major modifications. The only thing required is the substitution of the rhythm for Rumba, “Slow or preferably 4, 1” instead of Cha Cha 1. Note that here both the counts 4, 1 are taken on the same foot. See the table below; the last row is for the basic rhythm in Rumba:

All the figures and movement pattern given for the dance Cha Cha Cha, remains the same and unaltered for Rumba as well.

Basic Sequence:
1. Basic 4 1
2. Basic 4 1
3. New York 4 1
4. Spot Turn 4 1
5. Hand to Hand 4 1
6. 2 & 3 4 1

Note: Dancing the various figures in the particular sequence given should give a better idea of the flow in this dance.
