Chapter 4

The Past

“I hope everything is alright out there,” said a worried Misty. She looked at Callum who was guarding the entrance to the Gi cave with her.

“Don’t worry. I’m sure that they’re all right. And Jasmina knows how to take care of herself. I’ve been with her for almost all my life” he said to Misty trying to give her the most assuring look he could manage “Except for a year after our parents died,” he continued to himself quietly.

“How…how did they die?” Misty asked. Callum’s gaze suddenly became a depressed look.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know what I was saying,” Misty said sensing the change in Callum’s mood.

“No harm done. I guess I might as well tell you. They died trying to protect Corel. We were 15 then. She was always the friendly type.”

“Jasmina the friendly type? That doesn’t sound like Jasmina to me,” Misty said.

“Well she was. And like I was saying, she was always those type of people who thought about everyone but herself. While our parents were fighting those)(*&^%$ monsters, we were hiding in the basement of an abandoned house. She was worried about her parents and ran out to them. I tried to follow her but… but she locked me in so that I won’t get hurt. I don’t know what happened to her after that but I managed to get out. I saw our parent’s bodies but no sign of Jasmina anywhere. I vowed that I would kill Jenova if it were the last thing I do. A year later, in Midgar, I found Jasmina unconscious in a dark alley. She looked really bloody and battered. In her hands lay the Masamane and the Masamune. The minute I took away the swords, BAM. She hit me hard in the face. The face I saw wasn’t the face of my ol’ time buddy. Her eyes were glowing green. And boy, did she look furious. She charged at me but she fainted before she was even a foot near me.” Callum paused trying to find the right words to say.

“Then what happened?” Misty asked anxious to know what had happened next.

“What do you think? I brought her to an underground hospital. The doctors there didn’t even know what happened to her but they managed to get her wounds fixed. I stayed there till she woke up. I thought that she’d never wake up when she did. She didn’t recognize me a bit and she had a really frightened look on her face. When the doctors came in she started screaming and clutching her head telling them to go away. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that,” Callum decided to stop there unable to talk without his voice being shaky.

“Are you crying?” Misty asked.

“No. I’ve got something in my eye s’all.” Misty too decided to stop there. So throughout the next few minutes there was silence between them.

“Hey, Jasmina! Over here!” Jasmina turned and caught sight of Makarto, Blaze and Erayshha running to her with happy looks on their faces. She limped towards them her leg in a bandage she had wrapped around earlier.

“Jasmina!! What happened to your leg?!” Erayshha asked shocked seeing her leg bleeding quite badly.

“It’s nothing. It will heal in a while. Makarto, … did you get the book to … Callum and Misty?” she asked, struggling to show that she was in no pain.

“Yes, I have. But this is not the time to talk about that. You are wounded,” he told her.

“I told you, I’m fine.” She clenched her teeth to fight the pain and suddenly collapsed onto her knees.

“Jasmina! Do you guys have any antidotes?” Blaze asked Erayshha and Makarto.

“Don’t worry about me! The wound will be all right. I already took an antidote anyway,” she told them firmly and placed her right hand onto her leg.

Miraculously, the wound on her leg healed instantly.

“How did you do that?” Erayshha asked amazed at what she saw.

“I have some… secrets that I have yet to reveal. Now if someone could help me up?” Blaze and Makarto help her to stand up but her leg was too weak to support her weight. Blaze and Erayshha helped Jasmina to walk back to Cosmo Canyon while after much arguing; Jasmina relented to let Makarto to carry her sword.

Once they reached Cosmo Canyon, Blaze and Erayshha set Jasmina onto the floor with Makarto while they went to inform Misty and Callum that the battle was over.

“Ouch, how do you manage to carry your sword Jasmina? I think I might have broken my back.” Makarto laid the sword onto the ground and did some limping actions in front of Jasmina. The funny sight of Makarto limping brought a few laughs from Jasmina.

Well that got her laughing. She looks much happier that way.

“I told you that you couldn’t carry my sword. But you just had to carry it. So it’s not my fault you’ve got a broken back,” Jasmina replied smiling.

“Jas…” Makarto started.

“Don’t call me that,” she interrupted.

“Sorry. Just now when we were fighting, you looked really angry and furious. And when I asked Blaze he said you were always like that. Why?”

“Was I? Sorry. It’s just that every time I fight with Jenova’s monsters a thought of revenge for my parent’s death comes up and makes me fight harder. I can’t stop myself from attacking those monsters.” A sad look crossed her face and she looked away.
Oh great. You just had to remind her of that, didn’t you? I should have kept my mouth shut.” Makarto crept closer to Jasmina and put his head underneath her hand. She looked back at him.

“Don’t worry Makarto. It’s not your fault.” And after that she started tickling him and the smile that was gone came back to her face. Makarto laughed and laughed as she tickled him.

Author’s notes: Hmmmm… first time I put up author’s notes on my story. Well anyway. This part stresses more on Jasmina and Callum’s past. And a little on why Jasmina is always angry when fighting. Stay tuned for chap5.
