“Whew. Please tell me that that’s the last of them. They stink!” Erayshha called out to Callum.
“Don’t worry kid. There isn’t anymore bodies here!” he called back.
“What did you call me?!” Callum sniggered as he walked away from the screaming and enraged Erayshha.
“Break it up you two. Jasmina wants us back at the observatory,” called Blaze from the top of the cliff. Then he walked away with Callum leaving Erayshha muttering to herself.
“O.k. everyone, now that the cleaning up is over, we can finally find out how to resurrect the heroes of the past. Makarto, have you finished deciphering the book?” asked Jasmina. Makarto took his face out of the book.
“Yeap. According to the book, it says that we need the white materia, the black materia and the phoenix summon materia. And we can only resurrect four people at a time as it uses a lot of power. If more than four, the caller will die.”
“That should be easy. The black materia and the white materia is here for safekeeping, the phoenix summon materia is with us and all we have to do is to just call the heroes of the past four at a time,” Callum said feeling quite pleased with himself to be able to think that up.
“One problem. We’re not going to live that long to resurrect all of them. Neither will the first four,” Makarto said. “You see, it takes 500 hundred years in order to resurrect the next four.”
“So we can only resurrect four people. Well, we’re going to have to choose who will be the four then. It defineitly has to be Cloud and Tifa Strife,” said Misty.
“How about the great Aeris Gainsborough?” suggested Blaze.
“Right, we’ve already got our three. Just one more, any suggestions?” asked Jasmina. There was silence for a while.
“How about my ancestor? Barret Wallace,” said Callum. An image formed in the rest’s mind. Barret Wallace shouting instructions and curses at them with the same attitude as Callum.
“You’ve got to be kidding. One person calling me kid is already enough,” said Erayshha.
“Maybe you’re right,” agreed Callum. “I definitely don’t need a grandfather telling me what to do.”
“Correct. How about my ancestor, Yuffie Kisaragi.” The others pictured themselves having to find their materia everywhere before going into battle. Jasmina, Makarto, Blaze, Misty and Callum shook their heads.
“How about ……Makarto’s grandfather, Nanaki?” asked Misty.
“Nah. Before he died, he said that he had enough of living,” said Makarto. “How about Vincent Valentine? He did have a major role in the defeat of the one winged angel.”
“That’ll do. So it’ll be Cloud and Tifa Strife, Aeris Gainsborough and Vincent Valentine. Agreed?” Jasmina asked the rest of the group.
“Agreed,” they replied back.
“So Makarto, now that that’s settled is there anything else we must know about?” asked Jasmina.
“Uhhhhh…” Makarto dug his nose into the book and came back up. “Nope. Except that resurrecting them will take a lot of energy. And the caller will be very weak and might be unconscious for a while, so any volunteers?” Makarto asked grinning. Nobody answered.
“I’ll do it,” said Jasmina.
“You sure you’re up to it? You’re still quite weak from that battle and you know it,” said Blaze.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be all right,” she replied. “Makarto, what about the incantations for the resurrection spell?”
“I’ve already written it down,” he replied.
“So let’s get moving.”
“Wait. Move to where?” asked Callum.
“To the City of the Ancients, stupid,” replied Erayshha.
“You think you’re so smart, don’t you kid?”
“SAY THAT AGAIN AND I SWEAR THAT I WILL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF!!!”
The City of the Ancients wasn’t as it was during the time of the heroes. The monsters and Jenova had destroyed it during their invasion. Even though it was destroyed, some of its beauty still remained but a few monsters had dwelled there as well. As the Avalanche Revived made their way through the city, they stayed alert for any signs of ambush. There were a few times when a monster chose to show itself but it was easily defeated. They were in front of an entrance to a tunnel when suddenly, Jasmina stopped.
“Did you hear that?” she asked looking around, her eyes scanning the area.
“Hear what?” asked Blaze.
“I heard a voice. Calling us.”
“Maybe you’re just hearing some stupid monster roaring,” said Callum leaning on a pillar.
“No. I don’t think it’s a monster. It sounded more human-like,” she replied turning to Callum. Suddenly, she drew her sword and strode towards him. Jasmina slashed out … and killed a monster behind him.
“Phew. Next time you want to save my life from a f****** monster, tell me!” he said, his hand at his heart. Jasmina placed her sword back in its sheath.
“You’re welcome.” And with that she led the group into the tunnel.
The tunnel’s beauty was indescribable. The only word that could describe it is magnificent. Mako was shining throughout the whole cave as they walked through. The colour of the mako glinting off their weapons. It was definitely a magnificent sight. It wasn’t long before they reached another forest, but this forest had corals for trees. Once they cleared the coral forest, they saw a shimmering pool with waters that looked very clean you could practically see the bottom.
“This is where … the great Aeris Gainsborough was laid to rest,” said Misty silently. “This is a very holy place. I can feel it.”
“You’re not the only one, Misty,” said Blaze.
“There it is,” said Jasmina pointing at a shell-like building, “once inside, everybody has to be alert, just in case monsters come here to disrupt the spell. Blaze, I’m putting you in charge.”
“Got it.”
“Let’s go, people.”
They walked down the crystalline stairs cautiously, looking for any signs of monsters. They made it onto the altar without any difficulty so, as instructed by Jasmina; Blaze directed the others to keep a lookout at certain places he thinks monsters will appear. Jasmina took out the white and black materia from her pouch and took the phoenix summon materia out of her armlet. She laid them in front of her in a straight line, knelt down and began to recite the incantations.
“Oceanus, opacare, maritimus, autumnus, et umbra, ignis aqua. Cor, ugana Tobias. Ru ana, cél Elkovis de Oceanus, opacare, meritmus autumnus, et ucori, resurrectus.” A dazzling white light engulfed the kneeling body of Jasmina. A few monsters suddenly came out of nowhere, as if entranced by the power that has just been summoned.
“Callum, monsters at eight
o’ clock. Misty, Makarto, try to delay them as long as possible. Callum,
help Misty and Makarto. Erayshha, at the altar with me now!” Misty readied
an arrow while Callum checked his guns. Along with Makarto, they fought
the monsters swiftly killing them with their attacks. Erayshha raced to
the altar as fast as she could while getting her whip ready. And not a
moment too soon. A monster had jumped down near Jasmina but was slashed
and whipped by Erayshha and Blaze.
“Jasmina, you’d better hurry
up,” Blaze muttered to himself as he fought the monster.
While the fighting was going on outside the envelope of light surrounding Jasmina, she was concentrating on the incantation she was reciting. The black, white and phoenix summon materia were glowing ferociously now. Finally, three forms appeared on the top of the materia. From the black materia was a man all dressed in black with silver hair and golden eyes while from the white materia, a woman dressed in white with black hair and silver gray eyes appeared. While the last materia had a fiery phoenix standing over it.
“Maritimus, opacare et leto. Why have you called upon us?” asked the man in a deep voice.
“I, Jasmina, call upon you because I wish to ask from you a favour,” replied Jasmina.
“And what be your favour, child?” asked the woman in a gentle voice which was far different from the man. Jasmina winced a little at being called a child.
“If you allow it, could you resurrect four people from the past?” asked Jasmina.
The three forms were in silence for a while until the phoenix spoke in a voice that was both gentle and deep, “It shall be done. And who will be the four?”
“Cloud and Tifa Strife, Aeris Gainsborough and Vincent Valentine.”
“You are asking quite a difficult thing to do. Their spirits have been in the Lifestream for a long time and shall be difficult to find,” said the man.
“And it will be dangerous, for you,” said the woman.
“But it shall be done.” Their forms disappeared and in their place four portals appeared swirling with green mist. After a few minutes had passed, Jasmina felt herself grow weak as the portals sapped her energy, each turning into its own colour. The first was a light blue, the second was a light red, the third a bright white while the fourth a black, as black as night. Trying to stay conscious, Jasmina pinched herself to keep awake. As the swirling portals began to fade, Jasmina saw four humanoid shapes emerging from the portals, and everything went black.
As Blaze and Erayshha stood guard, the white light surrounding Jasmina faded away to reveal five people laying unconscious on the floor, Jasmina was one of them. Suddenly, all the monsters disappeared and not a single one could be seen anywhere, not even the killed monsters.
“Does anyone get the feeling that we were fighting illusions?” asked Erayshha breaking the silence in the building.
“But they seemed too real to be illusions,” said Misty.
“We’ll figure that out later. Right now, we’ve got to carry them out,” said Blaze.
“I don’t think we need to
carry all of them out. Three of them are waking up now!” said Erayshha.
Blaze, Misty and Callum turned around. Indeed, three of them are slowly
waking up.
Yeow. What hit me?? Cloud rubbed his head with his hand. He opened his eyes, expecting to see the green colour of the Lifestream he had become so used to, but instead he found himself on the alter on which Aeris was killed and saw four teenagers and one Red-like beast. He looked at his left side and saw Tifa laying beside him and Aeris laying beside her, both slowly waking up. What the… One of the teenagers, a boy who looked almost like him except for his black hair, came up to him. He extended his hand out to Cloud.
“Who are you?” asked Cloud as he stood up.
“I am Blaze Strife, your descendent. It’s been 600 years since Meteor. Welcome back to the living.”
“600 years??” said Tifa suddenly.
“Yeap. I’m Makarto. Grandson of Nanaki and protector of Cosmo Canyon,” said the red beast.
“Oh yes. Red told us much about you. And the others are?” asked Aeris.
“This is Misty Highwind, descendent of Cid Highwind, Callum Wallace, descendent of Barret Wallace and Erayshha Mujin, descendent of Yuffie Kisaragi. And the one I’m holding up is our leader, Jasmina Valentina,” replied Blaze, “And he, I presume, is Vincent Valentine, right?” Blaze pointed at the still unconscious silver-haired man laying beside Jasmina. Cloud, Tifa and Aeris only just noticed him there.
Cloud, wide-eyed, said, “That is not Vincent. That is Sephiroth!”
