ALBANY MODEL AERO CLUB WHAT'S NEW PAGE |
9/8/04 I'm just going to use this page to rabbit on a bit. We have started to run a couple of Barbies at the club. Railway Bob, myself, Steve and James have pitched in and organised a few snaggers and drinks and had a couple of pleasant lunches. The club seems pretty strong with Sundays getting very popular. Alan travels around 300km to come and fly Sundays so he is obviously very keen. Railway Bob is still up to his old antics and brings a lot of fun into the club. His past two sorties have been flying the Hustler Mark I inverted and landing several times upside down. This Hustler is so old it has the dope and tissue covering. Each week a little bit more Zap and Epoxy is added to keep the thing flying. Another trick that Bob has been up to is trying to entice our flyers into cutting the ribbon. Bob flies a bit low at times and I'm sure he is trying to get one of our pictures onto the "Unsuccessful Landing" pages. Whilst on the subject of "Bob" I will mention the nice little PC9 that he bought out to fly. It's a little cutie. Steve is progressing with his Heli but is getting a bit cheesed off with the Dragongfly. One of our "good" (maybe the wrong word) heli flyers had a bit of a hard landing, but for fear of embarrassment I wont reveal his name. Not much damage to the heli, but maybe just a little bit to his pride.(and no pic, im a bit pissed off about that). Slope soaring starts on 16th August. I cant wait for that. I just hope the wind is up a bit on Saturday and down a bit on Sunday. I dont ask for much. Anyway, happy flying and keep them pics coming. Bluflame |

16/08/04 Well the slope soaring season has started which saw us take a trip to Sand Patch on Saturday 14/08/04. For those of you that don't know where Sand Patch is, it is near the big Windmills in Albany. Anyway, the trip there showed us obviously the wind was blowing pretty hard. I took along my Tornada and Sky fighter which is yet unflown. A few of the boys were also there including Railway Bob, Dave, Glen, Bruce, Kye and a couple of others who's names evade me. Anyway, Bob had the first launch and I had the second. The wind was blowing around 15-20knots and it was pretty hard getting a good launch, but once you had cleared the cliffs the flying was great. The wind was a bit stiff for the Sky Fighter so it still remains unflown. Kye bought down a couple of his wings and they were working really well. He sells them, so if you want to see what they go like, have a look at his site. http://www.wowings.com . It's pretty obvious how strong the wind is when flyers caps actually fly better than some models. Because of the wind I found out that my spars on the Tornado had been broken so that is a job for next week. On Sunday 15th it was power day. I had one flight and thought the wind was a bit strong. Railway Bob came a bit late and cranked the old Hustler up. It wasnt too windy for him. He obviously had a ball. Bob rigged up the Hustler with a tow line and took Daves wing for a fly. Until next time.... Happy Flying Bluflame |
06/09/04 Last Sunday 05/09/04 was one of the first good days flying we have had for a while because for the past week or so all we have had is shit weather. Anyway, some of us had a good day and some of us had a bad day. Remember it was father's day so we should of all had a good day. My day started off bad when the compressor that the kids bought me did not work. My day got better though because I had a good day flying. On the other hand poor old Railway Bob had a bad day. His Delta wing crashed but would not burn. He tried twice. Check out unsuccessful flying pages to see what happened. Steve had an equally bad day. He crashed his heli and was not a happy chappy. Anyway, life goes on and we will be at the Church of the Rotating Propeller another day. Pastor Bluflame. |
05/12/05 I can tell you this for nothing. The past 2 weeks have been totally crap flying weather. All the pussies stayed home and all the d.....heads went flying. Only 3 of us latter named persons turned up both weeks. At least I got to have a fly on Sunday but the wind was a bit much. I managed to get out for a mid week flight last week. Took the Spitfire out and then tried Jasons new plane which is a small piper cub with an OS40 4 stroke in it. Firstly the plane wanted to turn left. I had full right to fly it straight, so I did a big circle and landed. Fixed the ailerons and took her up again only to have the motor stop mid flight. So it was 2 short flights but it does fly very nicely. I wish i had my camera with me all the time. Something always happens when you havnt got it. Railway Bob was flying his new Mustang 46 size when it went dead stick. Being a windy day Bob had to land with out much warning. His plane hit a large gum tree which washed off heaps of speed, summersaulted the plane onto it's back and into some soft scrub. Damage Nil. Missing - 1 x glow plug. I'll tell you what else I learnt. Dont heat your landing gear and temper it in cold water. I did this and my poor old wheel struts on the Spitfire turned into lead. I could litterally tie them in knots. They are really giving me the shits! The retracts on the Spitfire have nearly won, but I must admit I do like them for looks purposes. 15/11/05 Well, last week on the 6th November 2005 young Kieran got his bronze wings. Well done young fella. See his pic here. Kieran was also kind enough to get a pic of my crashed Strega. Thanks a lot for that. It was a great day on Sunday last and the week before. Happy flying. 30/10/05 Bloody wind! Ruined a perfectly good day. Managed a couple of flights with the Spitfire but it was awkwad. Steve M had his first fly today of his scratch built Hustler. It went well. Check out the new crashes on the page 7. My bloody ailerons blew off last Sunday and poor Kevin lost the green machine after a spiraling death plunge. 20/10/05 What a fantastic day I had today. Wind was non existant and it was a great day for flying. Took the Spitfire for its maiden flight. The Saito 82 rattled the engine screws loose and there were a couple of minor problems but hopefully I have fixed them. Also tuned the 61 in the Cygnus and got an extra 2000rpm out of it. Last Sunday was a good day for some and not so good for others. Our flying field is near the Albany Regional Prison and there are some guys at the club who we just cant keep out of there. Check out the unsuccessful landings page and have a look at the pics. Poor Darren reckons they should be called the Department of Injustice after they unceremonially handed him his plane in a garbage bag. 12/09/05 My gawd!!!!!! An update after on 6 days. This is only gunna be a short one cause I came home from flying before 9.00am. Not because the weather was bad, it was worse! My missus forced me to go to the "Playschool" show at the local PCYC. She did it cause she thought I'd enjoy it. She was wrong. I dont really know what happended on Sunday, except I got 4 beautiful flights in within an hour, and it was perfect. Woohoo. PS Not only is Railway Bob a mad flyer, he is also a mad bike rider. Im sure if they wanted motorbikes to ride on one wheel they would have built them with only one wheel. Evil Knievil, eat your heart out!! 06/09/05 Hmmm! I've been a slack chit. Havnt updated the page in over a month. Maybe it's because the flying weather has been bad. The past 2 weeks I've had to anchor myself to the ground, hold on tight and try to fly against the wind. It's been pretty bad. On the bright side, we have some new pics, the slope day is on and the weather can only get better. 31/07/05 Another day in paradise! Perfect weather and perfect for flying. It was fantastic. Graham did a bit of a cartwheel with his Hurricane and Railwaybob did a couple of unorthodox landings. See the new vid for all the action. 28/07/05 I need a bit of egging along sometimes to get the page updated. Thanks Railway. Last weekend we managed a few flights. The wind was a bit blowey but it wasnt all bad. I tried out the Cygnus with the OS 61RE and tuned pipe. What a world of difference that made. It was like a rocket ship as compared with the Magnum 61. Anyway, this week have a look a Grahams Fokke Wolfe and Railways bad landing. 03/07/05 Oh Well, not many clouds in the sky but the bloody wind was blowing. Only got 1 flight in. Railway, Grant, Richard and Graham turned up but the wind was too much. Grant managed to fly the overweight Hustler with the video camera on board. The preview looked great and I hope to have some video uploaded shortly. Check out our "Slope Comp" 2006 pages. 27/06/05 Well I had the first day flying for about 3 weeks on Sunday because of the bad weather we have had. Sunday was great. Clear skies and not much wind. I flew the Diablo with the new old SF61 and boy did it go well. The OS is a much better motor than the Magnum in my opinion. Also flew the Cygnus and Bob H's Pizza Box. Now that was weird. Check out the pic on the "Our Planes" page. We also had the club AGM. I have put a link on the main page for the upcoming slope comp but nothing more than that. 22/05/05 Firstly, Arsenal won the FA Cup but what a boring game. I hate to say it but Man U deserved to win. Secondly, dont fly with flat batteries. My poor old Strega crashed because I thought the batteries were good and they wer'nt. 4.14 volts isnt much cop. Check out the unsuccessful landings page for a pic. I was forced to put it on by some other members. I wo'nt mention their names. Bob, James, Steve, Richard. 21/05/05 The FA Cup is starting soon so I cant dribble on. We all know Arsenal will win. Firstly thanks to Grant for the great video "Cowboys". I love it. It's big but it's worth getting. Just about finished my new plane. Cant wait to fly that. Crashed my poor Carera last week but nothing major. I will put her into semi retirement until I get interested in it again. Wayne came down from the Pilbara again this year. He flies his bloody chopper pretty well and you can see it in the cowboys vid. I deleted a couple of messages in our guestbook but must have deleted the whole lot. All I can say about that is "Shit Happens". Happy flying. 01/05/05 It was a fantastic days flying today. Weather was perfect except for a couple of early morning showers. Railway Bob had some fun as you can see in the video. Dave's trainer had a bit of a hard landing, Richard flew well as did good o'l Jimbo. Jimbo was trying to tell us his 3 stroke 15 was better than his old one. I'm not to sure about the 3 stroke but that is what it sounded like. 18/04/05 No I havnt been slack, Ive just been busy. Went flying at Mandurah weekend before last and went on a motorbike ride the weekend before so I just havnt had much time. Anyway, did get to go out on Friday, Sunday and Monday for a fly. Friday was great, Sunday was fantastic and Monday was good. Railway Bob and Jimbo got the rockets going and there are a couple of movies on the page. 20/03/05 What a lovely day to fly but what a prick of a day when your motor dosnt play the game. I spent the other night putting the 108 into the Diablo. I thought it would be great, the motor had other ideas. Anyway after at least 2 hours and a bit of frustration we finally got it going. Thanks to Ed and George and especially the other 15 mechanics in the pits who knew SFA (I wont mention any names). Gareth went solo and did very well. Well done. Ross lost his muffler and poor old Jim crashed his Eridanus. See the video from the links on the home page. Happy Flying. 14/03/05 I've been a bit slack and not done much to the page for a couple of weeks. Picked myself up a new Diablo 60 size. Nice plane, nice price and I'm happy. It flies well too. Drizzly day last Sunday but managed a couple of flights. The normal crew had a reasonable day. I'm putting together a video on landings so watch out for it. 27/02/05 A great day for some and a not a great day for others at the club today. The highlight was the BBQ sizzle. Steve bought his new DA50 to show everyone. What a lovely motor. Another new member was with us but I wont put his name here just in case it is wrong. We have around 30 paid members now. Young Ross is just about ready to land his trainer then he will be able to go solo. Railway Bob showed us his new F15 before the flight (Click Here) and we also have a pic of it after the flight (Click Here). Graham gave us a display of runway aerobatics with his Mosquito (Click Here). The net result was a broken plane, broken engine and damaged pride. And last of all, here's a pic of the hanger (Click Here). 07/02/05 Another magnificent day on Sunday. New flyer Kevin who hasnt flown for 15 years came along with his new scratch built mustang. A bit shakey but it flew well. They reckon it's like riding a bike! The new boys Gareth and Ross also got a bit of time in the sky. My Kitty Hawk had a couple of short landings but no major damage done. The club is going strong. 30/01/05 Perfect day for flying this morning. Quite a few turned up, including a couple of new flyers. Some nice planes as well. Check em out on the the "planes" pages. Not much happened except I put a trainer into a tree and caused a bit of minor damage. All fixed now but it was a new plane. We also learnt how not to lose your wing bolts, thanks to a lacky band and Greg. Check out the pic. 23/01/05 Wow! Talk about eventful days, this was one really eventfull day. First up I had just finished night shift so I only had a couple of flights cause I had the night shift jitters and thought it best that I put the planes away and go home to bed. Before i went I took a bit of video of Steve flying his orange rocket. It moves out pretty quick and Steve is pretty good at flying it. Then I stayed and watched Graham and Cyril have a fly of his lime green plane. Graham said something like, Geeze I thought I was watching the wrong plane. From where I was standing it was obvious that he was flying the wrong plane and the lime green one screamed into the ground. See the pics and vids 10/01/05 The slope weekend is getting closer and we all expect to have a good time. Winds of 16-20knots are expected. Sounds to good to be true. Graham has made the video page with the maiden flight of his new Seafury. Check it out. 02/01/05 Happy New Year and all that stuff. I had to work so it was not all that much fun. Anyway on to the flying. Got in a bit of slope soaring on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was conventional soaring off the slopes at Mids. Sunday was not conventional with Railway Bob acting as a tug. He's a good tugger and got our wings into the air with ease. Check out our video page for a few cool vids. Not long until our combat weekend. Keep on flying. 19/12/04 What a great day we had today. Santa came out to the airfield and visited the flyers. Mad Railway Bob was up to his usual antics. This time he has put a servo release on his plane and he towed a couple of slope soarers into the sky. When I say a couple, I mean a couple. At one stage he had 2 on the same tow. That wasnt very successful but we had a ball. Later I stopped at Middleton for a fly of my slope soarer. Mad Bob rocked up and he didnt have his slope soarer with him, but that dosnt matter. He got out his trusty plane and threw her off the cliffs and did some slope soaring with his powered model. What a great day!! Check out the pics on our slope page. 25/10/04 Did a couple of modifications to the page to make it a bit easier to navigate. Sunday 24/10/05 was a great day. About 15 members fronted up for a nice day of flying. Steve bought his kids out for a bit of control line stuff (See the results here) and everyone else had a great day. Even Dennis who put his plane into the deck.(See it here). 23/10/04 I had to go to Perth last Sunday so I missed out on some flying. I did manage to get in the Wednesday before and last Thursday. I was in the market for a new plane and the dramas I had nearly sent me to Vietnam so that I could get a new plane quicker. I wont bore you with what happened but in the end I finished up with a new Strega International. All I can say is "WOW". The plane flies beautifully straight out of the box. No weight needed and it was easy to build. Flies perfectly. You can see it here. Graeme had a new Cessna which only made it to the end of the runway. You must always remember to make your plane 100% safe before you fly it. Would you sit in a plane that isnt 100% right? I don't think so! Anyway here comes Sunday again. I cant wait. 12/10/04 What is going on with all this wind? It is so windy I only managed to get 4 flights of the Comet in on Sunday. Not many people turned up. Greg & Dave had a couple of flights on their electric gear, young Steve put the Kadet in the air and Grant put the Hots up for a couple of flights, but in the end the wind won the day. It's even too windy to throw the slope soarer off the edge of the cliff cause I reckon it will get blown to South Australia. Anyway, hopefully the nice weather is on its way. 05/10/04 Well, the members page has caused a bit of a stir as I made reference to "Gay Bar" in the picture of our 4 illustrious members having fun and being gay. Now I dont know what some people think, but for the record, gay means happy. Maybe I should have said the "Happy Bar". Anyway, Railway Bob had a dummy spit and decided to crash 2 planes on the weekend. He lost the mini PC9 and his new Funstar. Not very nice but these things do happen. PC9 is on the unsuccessful landings page but I dont have any pics of the Funstar. 01/10/04 I've added a members page. I will put photos of our members on this page when I cant find anywhere else to put the pics. 26/09/04 You may have noticed that I have moved the site. It will take a bit of time to tidy it up but I have it working in an ok sort of fashion. What this means is I have a bit more web space to work with. I will iron out the bugs later. So James, Railwaybob and Steve, Don't hassle me or I will curse your planes. |
