Okay, November 2005, I visited Japan again with my fiend (yes, he's still a fiend) and of course like any tourist pictures were taken. By the way these, on this page, were taken using my Sanyo DMX-C1 which I bought during my last trip to Japan. Of course, now they have a really nice and newer version, the Sanyo VPC-C6 (6mp, 5X Zoom, larger LCD...etc.) which I really wanted to buy but didn't have the budget. Oh well, next year.
Jack's Trip: Japan 2005 (Page 1)
We spent a couple of nights in Yokohama, so during a Saturday afternoon we went around the area. I like Yokohama because it's compact with most of things to see clustered in a small area. The Minato Mirai area has the Landmark Tower, all 70 floors of it with an observation deck on the 69th floor. The entrance fee to get to the observation deck/floor is around $10. Oh and it also has a very fast and quite elevator. It only took 40 seocnds to get to the 69th floor. Near the building is the Cosmo World and the Nippon Maru and Maritime park, plus the Intercontinental Hotel shaped like a sail (one day, I will book a stay there).
Yokohama (Minato Mirai Area)
Yokohama (Chinatown)
Just a quick 5 minute subway ride from the Minato Mirai area is Yokohama's Chinatown. As you can see in the pictures it is very crowded, but amazingly organized and clean. I think it's the one places in Japan that the Japanese allow themselves to eat while walking around. Ooohhh so many pork buns sold and eaten. They're yummy and I had a couple for lunch...next to the ubiquitous vending machines. Hey, gotta drink something while eating right!?! Anyways, one of the pictures we took because it had a Panda on top of a building reminding us of Ranma Saotome's dad. We cracked up seeing this.
Yokohama (Marine Tower and Yamashita Park Area)
Right next to Chinatown is the Yamashita Park area. And next tot the Park is the Yokohama Marine Tower. I think every major city or town in Japan has a tower. We probably could've gone up the Tower but that would have meant more entrance fee plus it was late inthe afternoon already and my feet were too tired. Anyways, there's also a ship parked there that seems to be famous for something. The ship is Hikawa Maru. I didn't quite get why it was famous but we took pictures of it anyways including the "Flock of Seagulls" (I call them and pigeons "Rat Birds"). OOOhhhh 80's reference... In Yamashita Park there is this "sculpture" of some NYK shipping containers. I think it's supposed to represent Yokohama Harbor's shipping industry. In the neighborhood there is also a McDonald's Dennys location. Actually McDonalds is at the first floor and Dennys is on the second floor. Also spotted in the neighborhood is "Ein" the Dog. Yes, if you remember last year's pictures include a "Beware of Ein" sign we saw at Kyoto. Well "Ein" is taking a break in Yokohama. Ha ha, "Ein," by the way for those who don't know, is a character from "Cowboy Bebop" anime series.
