Jack's Trip: Philippines (November 2005)
Well I got to spend a few days in the Philippines this past November vacation (actually only 3 days). I was just enough to visit Faimly and Friends and go out to dinner. Now those who know me, will know I don't turn down dinner when I'm anywhere in Asia. There're just too many place to hang out and eat. Okay, I didn't take that many pictures since I didn't get to do too many Tourist things. Besides it's to hard taking pictures when you're strapping on the feed bag, stuffing your stomach 'til you're about to burst.
A Dinner with the Mystery Woman (Code named "J")
Coffee with Friends at the Mall
| For more info on "The Red Crab" click on their logo and it will link up their main website. The other pictures are some of what they serve. I didn't get to try them, but definitely, next time. The first pict is called Crab Adobo...adobo is a style or flavor that defines a lot of Filipino cooking. Normally vinegar, soy sauce, and garlic....so yummy...... The next pict is something called Crab Maritess....from what I remember described...the crab is basically cooked or fried in olive oil, lots of garlic, and chili....it really sounds...well I'm hungry now. | Dinner at Shangri-La |
Everytime I'm in The Philippines, I always make time to hang out and have dinner with friends. These two, "G" ang "R," are my oldest friends there. I've known them since 1995, when worked together at an advertising agency. So on one of the nights we went to dinner at the Shangri-La Plaza. Some place called Steaktown Charcoal Grill (I would link this up but they don't seem to have a website). Side note: While having dinner, I missed my chance to see "J" one lat time before going back to the U.S., since she had gone to the hotel to drop off some packages. My apologies...go to her since I think I annoyed her with that one. I think I owe her quite a bit of presents and stuff......naks....
Okay, I got to go out to dinner with the special one "J." We went to a place recommended by my cousin. It's a place called "The Red Crab." Oh the food was yummy...they served Crab kind of like the Singapore Chili Crabs but with additional local flavors. We ordered the Curry Crabs...mildly spicy...very good but very messy. So anyways, between mouthfuls of food, we somehow got to converse. Of course I was a mess, but it was "finger licking good." Well good thing they had us wear bibs or else I would have had curry and crab bits all over me. "J" did her best to keep my face clear of food bits...ha ha. I had a really good time, but, sighhhhh...it was too short. She did give the second picture for my wallet where it now resides....
Well, some people wonder why I like booking myself at the InterContinental Hotel in Makati, Philippines. The answer is that it's close to where most people work and next to the Ayala Glorietta Mall. The just mean that if I had nothing else to do I go walk around the mall to find some good shopping bargains. These set of picture were taken using my camera phone so it's all fuzzy. I met up with some friends and had coffee at the Figaro in the mall. For a place that's in the hot tropics, The Philippines does have a coffee drinking culture, so all over the malls and shopping centers you'll always find some coffee shop (including Starbucks and other American brands).
