“I came to know the Lord in a ’57
Ford”
This quote is embossed on a t-shirt someone gave me for
my birthday some years ago, and the phrase is true. Though I had gone
to church much of my life I did not have a relationship with the God of
Heaven. He was not my Heavenly Father. Then one day a friend began to
talk to me about my need for that relationship. He shared with me how
we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s perfection, and how the payment
for that failure was death and condemnation. Then he shared with me that
God loved me so much He gave His one and only Son as a substitute for
me, and not only me but whoever would believe and respond to His gift
of grace. That His Son Jesus willingly laid down His life and took the
punishment for my sins as well as the sins of the world. God then being
satisfied that the sin debt had been paid raised Jesus from the dead.
So at that moment in time, on a Tuesday morning in Belmont, Michigan seated
in a ’57 Ford, the God of Heaven became my Heavenly Father as He drew
me to Himself. I bowed my head and my heart and asked and received Jesus
Christ as my Savior and Redeemer. How about you?
