A Brief Introduction to Ally McBeal

Ally McBeal is a TV show produced by the Fox Network. Since its first season in 1997, it has won Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award. David E. Kelly, a creator of The Practice, Chicagoi Hope and Picket Fences, is writing and producing this show. It is now broadcast by a cable channel, Home CGV , in Korea. The main story of Ally McBeal is about its female lead, Ally McBeal's career and her love. She happens to work for the law firm of Richard Fish, a former law school friend. She meets her ex-boyfriend, Billy Thomas, who also works there and his wife, Georgia Thomas. In this show, you can see lots of romance and breakups related Ally McBeal. No matter how comic and hilarious it is, Ally McBeal is neither a light sitcom nor a no-brainer. That's why I like it very much. Sometimes the way it describes our life is so touching that I end up having tears in my eyes. By watching it, you will get something that you've never expected from sitcoms.

What makes this show so funny and unique?

Unisex Bathroom

The bathroom of Cage & Fish Law Corporation where Ally is working for, is a core place of this drama. This bathroom is very special because both men and women can use it. How embarrassing it would be! However, the characters of Ally McBeal do not seem to think in that way. In this bathroom, Ally and her co-workers console, sometimes fight each other, share some secrets, dance to get rid of stress and makes a secret love. It is always fun to see some secrets revealed by someone doing their private business in the stall. Though this space seems a little unreal, it is the space which brings lots of laughter to us.

Fantasy

The thing that differentiates Ally McBeal from other TV series is fantasy. Ally and her colleagues always take a trip to their inner world. For example, Ally imagines that she fires flames to Ling Woo when she hates her behaviors. Also, when Billy tells Ally that he already got married to another woman and he is happy to meet her again as a good co-worker,the scene that several arrows are shot to her heart is shown to express how terribly her heart is torn up by his saying. This kind of fantasy that exactly fits each scene makes viewers feel a sense of sympathy or satisfaction and catharsis. By seeing the fantasy, viewers become involved in each scene and they laugh and cry with the characters.

Music & Bar

In Ally Mcbeal, there is not only lots of funny and touching moments but also Vonda Shepard's music. Vonda Shepard is the singer, who has featured mostly at the end of the show when everyone is at the bar. She is known for singing most of the songs at the show, These songs which match each scene definitely this show make full of fun. As fas as I know, three O.S.T albums and a Christmas album have released. At the bar, the characters of the show get rid of their stress, singing on the stage. My favorite song is the one Larry sang for Ally. He is a quite good singer and his voice is so sweet.

The Dancing Twins

If you watch Ally McBeal, you can meet twins who are entertaining us with funny and bizzare dancing. They are called "The Dancing Twins" in the show. They appear and dance regulary at the bar and whenever Ally feels depressedm they make her happy and smile. It is really fun to see their peculiar dance. Among their famous dance are "Funky Chicken", "Robocop", and "The Train". Their real name is Steve and Eric and other than Ally McBeal, they have performed in many films and shows. If you want to see their hilarious dance, watch this show. I bet you'll really enjoy it.

Remarkable Cameos

In every episodes of Ally McBeal, famous stars appear as cameos and make this show more inspiring and humorous. In the episode "Angels & Blimps" of the second season, Haley Joel Osment acts as Eric, a little boy who has leukemia. He wants to sue God because he thinks that his father's death and his illness is an act of God. In this episode, he shows incredibly impressive performance. In addtion to him, Bruce Willis appears as Dr.Nickle and Rosie O'Donnell acts as Dr.Hooper in some episodes. Seeing the famous guests are one of the greatest pleasure of watching the show.
