Ice Dragon

The Ice Dragon, my 2nd joint venture with Ryphus. Damn that guy is a good writer. If you haven't read New Starts yet, i suggest you do. It follows a mercenary company with him as its head.

Anyways, on to the Ice Dragon, i always hated the idea of ammunition based weaponry. I also like the idea of the 5 points of damage that a Clan ER small kicks out. So voila! A picture was born, passed on the stats to Ryphus and he wrote the fluff.

   History and Capabilities
The Ice Dragon is a simple variation of the standard elemental suit. Modified in several areas, it is barely a variation of the standard suit, though it's features would give any elemental pilot preference for it. First off, the standard anti-personnel machine guns have been upgraded and also doubled. The guns are adaptable and can take several kinds of ammunitions. Heavy slug rounds have been preferred as clan elementals face stiffer competition from their Inner Sphere infantry enemies. Also the standard elemental claw has been redone as a full five fingered hand. Each finger ends in a sharp claw, and the design is superior for ripping armor off. The standard ER small laser also graces the other hand. It is a newer model, extremely light weight, but packing the same power. So far pilots have agreed that the laser fires smooth. Though early runs of the laser had the problem of the mirrors shifting and the laser always firing to the left. The fusing of the mirrors in place has made repairs more difficult, but has solved the problem.
Though designed as an upgraded infantry killer, the design can still attack mechs for those who dare. Though the loss of the SRM-2 pack means a significant weapon has been lost. Many stars have done considerable damage with the simultaneous attack of five SRM-2s. Even though the suits parameters have changed more toward an anti-infantry role, the Ice Dragon could still do damage to a mech in the hands of the right owner.
The design team was made up of mostly newer technicians, though several elementals were brought in to make suggestions and contribute ideas. Clan Ghost Bears policies are changing in face of the move into the Inner Sphere, and expanded ideas about extended use of infantry. Though Ghost Bear has not fully gone over to the idea of Proto-mechs, they are expanded their battle suit lines. The Ice Dragon is one such of these new productions of Clan Ghost Bear.
The suit has the standard range for its jump jets, a good 90 meters still gives it plenty of hop. Also the Asphestos Advanced Ferro-Link gives the suit full protection against any type of damage that the suit will face.
The Ice Dragon can do less damage than the original design, but its staying power is much greater. Pilots in the suit can stay in the field longer, so can ultimately do more damage. Pilots can live off the suit for extended periods of time. We are likely to see any enemies that attack Ghost Bear units to be ambushed by these suits, which are placed ahead beforehand. It is interesting to note that while the suit was in trial phase, Star Captain Roget took a new Ice Dragon against a full point of regular battle suits. The Star Captain was able to take two suits down before the battle computers registered his suit dead. If it had been a full point on point battle, the victor would have undoubtedly been the Ice Dragon.

Deployment
So far we have seen these suits mass produced. It takes very little time to retool old elemental factories to produce these new designs. These suits are part of the renewal shift that Khan Jorgensen started in 3064. So far we have named this Operation Refit. We are still probing the full extent of this operation.
Again I must point out the trend to a more highly mobile and hard hitting tactics. Any units we face are very liable to be quick and powerful. Precautions must be taken and new tactics must be utilized. Seeing your position as head of the training cadres we have left to us in the wake of the FedCom Civil War and the abandonment of many of our units. I would suggest we be wary of this trend.
