The Perfect Soldier
"Life is cheap...especially mine."
Heero Yuy is the main Character of Gundam Wing. His real name is unknown, although it has been alleged that it is Odin Lowe Jr. He got his code-name after the assasinated leader of the colonies, Heero Yuy. Heero is a professional assasin, and being a heartless killer at age 15, he is the most tragic of all the Gundam pilots. He was raised by Dr. J, a Gundam engineer, to be a soldier, and ace Gundam pilot. From a young age, he was trained in all methods of combat, from mobile suit warfare, to guns and other weaponary, to hand to hand combat. He has become extremely proficient at all these fighting techniques. Heero is ruthless and callous to both ally and enemy alike. He feels no remorse or guilt in killing, and sees anyone who opposes him as an enemy, who must be destroyed, no matter what the cost. He feels no emotions whatsoever, as he has been trained to disregard his identity, and focus solely on his mission. This is what makes him "the perfect soldier". He has a human body, but emotionally, he is nothing more than a machine. Heero was once a warm and kind-hearted young boy. However, he was repeatedly told that he was useless, and weak. He became extremely lonely and depressed, and became angry towards those who had made him into what he had become. He had been taught to kill his emotions by his adoptive father, Odin Lowe, but he still hung on to what little humanity he had left. However, this came to an end, when after a training mission went wrong, and innocent civilians were killed, the grief and remorse he felt were perceived as being weak, and human, by his trainers. The last bit of humanity was subsequently trained out of him. When he came to Earth, and found himself in a position where it would be advantageous to kill Relena Darlin, he was suprised and confused to discover that he could not bring himself to do it. It turns out that he still had a little love and compassion left in him. Eventually, with Relena's love and affection, Heero reclaims his humanity, and becomes a true human being again. In the sequel to Gundam Wing, Endless Waltz, Heero is even seen laughing and smiling. |
