On February 12 -15 Indiana-USAS members Lauren and Celeste attended the national conference in Atlanta, GA. These four days were filled with informative sessions, strategy sessions, and action. We learned about the Worker's Rights Consortium, CAFTA, the FTAA, past USAS victories, and ongoing struggles. On Friday we had a demonstration outside of Coca-Cola World to protest the companies use of paramilitary death squads to suppress union activity. |

As part of our education campaign, we held a No-Sweat Fashion Show on April 6. to promote companies with good business practices. While we feel it is important to inform the IUP student body of which companies use sweatshop labor, we believe that it is equally important to provide them with ethical alternatives. We featured clothing from Justice Clothing, Maggie's Organics, Lunatique, Northern Sun, and the IUP Co-op store. The event went really well, with a highly receptive audience of about 40 people. In addition to the clothing, we read labor related poetry, a sweatshop testimonial, and showed a short video about Forever 21's sweatshops in LA. |
