These are the playlists for the shows that I've done on CKCU. I try and update this page as the show airs, letting you know what's currently playing, but it's probably best to give me a day to get it up here with artist links and everything. If you'd like to listen to me, my show broadcasts Monday mornings, 10:00 'til 11:30 AM Eastern, and can be heard in the National Capital Region and surrounding areas by tuning into 93.1 FM, and it is also available worldwide via the Internet and streaming Real Audio by going to CKCU's audio page.
If you'd like to purchase anything you've heard on the show, I've created a page with links to stores, both local and online, that may be able to help you out.

Ghoststory "George Burton Blues" Before the Night's Around Me
After listening to many callers on Energy 1200 last week espouse how great it is getting a Canadian player for a Yurpean one, I anxiously await the phone calls post-losing in the first round of the play-offs in three games to the Leafs (Ottawa chooses to cut their loses and get out while the getting's good), where the same people suddenly start referring to the fact that Heatley is from Germany.
If you were listening last week, you would've heard me say that I won't be buying the Maestro "Best of" CD coming out because it didn't contain "Nothin' At All". Before coming into the studio to do the show today, I saw that very video on TV. Neat-o!

Hindsight being what it is, I really should've played "Dancing with Myself" during that first set, in honour of Billy Idol coming to town this week.

Falconhawk are in town tonight, but I happened to play a song by them entirely by co-incidence; I only found out through finding their website to link here. I read Erica Jong's Fear of Flying over the weekend, and initially thought of choosing songs that made me think of the book and various scenes, and create a soundtrack of sorts, but that's a lot of work and time and effort, so it didn't happen.
(Edit in, August 11: It's been pointed out to me that this show aired the day before the Air France accident in Toronto. With titles like "Fear of Flying", "Cries and Whispers", "The Rescuer", "Rainy Weather", "Safe" and "Flight Time", I should point out that I had nothing to do with the crash)

Art Ensemble of Chicago "Lebert Aaly (Dedicated to Albert Ayler) [excerpt]" Phase One
Maybe it's me, but I thought that this was a pretty good show. unfortunately, my usual listeners didn't hear it. Isn't that the way it goes? Violent Femmes were a request from last week, but it wasn't necessarily the track that the listener wanted. To quote famed radio programmer Donald Rumsfeld, you sometimes broadcast with the library you have, not the one you wish you had.
Uncut in town Wednesday, as is Sharon Coward. She'll hold a record release show at the Rainbow.

Buckwheat was a request. I also got one for the Violent Femmes, but ran out of time to play it. Next week, my pretties, next week. At one point I had planned to play nothing but songs from 1977 on Episode 77, but it didn't happen. Maybe Episode 1977.
Silkworm was played in memory of drummer Michael Dahlquist, who died in a horrific manner last week, and who was probably a low-key kinda guy, seeing how he didn't even use his actual name on the album I played a track from. I must admit that although I liked what I'd heard from their Matador albums, I never really followed them afterwards. The track I played today was really good, though, a surprisingly peppy track not dis-similar to the Modern Lovers' LP (hence the two follow-up tracks played). It's kind of sad on my part that a horrible tragedy had to occur in order for me to re-visit a band.
Hey look, a new Aphex Twin video/Chris Cunningham short film. This is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen, I don't understand it, and it's not safe for work, so don't watch it if that's where you are.

You know, had I not taken a week off last month, July 4 would have been "Episode 76". Spirit of '76, bay-bee! Yeah, that would've made more sense if we were Americans. Fontella Bass celebrated a birthday yesterday, "Obie" Benson of the Four Tops, and co-writer of "What's Going On", passed away last week, Pink Floyd reunited the other day. BEP and War at the Bluesfest this week. Requests were made for the Dears, Broken Social Scene and Le Tigre; they could not be found for various reasons.

Man, was the Husik to Stone Roses mix ever flawless.
Miles Davis was an album (but not song) specific request from two weeks ago. Sorry for missing last week's broadcast. I made my pro-boxing debut on the undercard of the Tyson fight and the combination of swollen jaw and wounded pride prevented me from coming in.

Dears were a non-specific song request. Did anybody read Lynn Saxberg's review of the new Coldplay album in the Citizen on Saturday? She claimed she couldn't accept the sincerity of lyrics about loneliness given that we all "know" that the singer is married with child. Do you get the feeling that as a youth, Ms Saxberg called the cops after listening to Neil Young? "He shot his baby! Down by the river! Shot her dead! His confession's on tape, why aren't you arresting him?!"
If you'd like to purchase anything you've heard on the show, I've created a page with links to stores that may be able to help you out.
