CORPUS CHRISTI OBSERVANCE

One of the inborn desires in all men is the hope of the possession of God. Like every creature around him, man thirsts for happiness, yet, as Abbot Gueranger recounts, "he is the only creature on earth that feels within itself longings for what is immensely beyond its capacity." Since true happiness is based on the measure of man's union with his Creator, it is humanly impossible for man to achieve a high degree of happiness on this earth.

But, what is impossible to men is possible with God. He has allowed us to share in His life in two great ways, thus making it possible for all of us to attain a measure of peace and happiness that we cannot find in the world around us. In Baptism, God comes and lives in our souls through sanctifying grace. He takes up His abode with us in a manner nothing else created could ever experience. But, this is not enough. God wants to unite Himself to us even more. As a sign of His great love for us, God gave us Himself to receive as the food and life of our souls, and to remain on our altars for us to adore. The Real Presence of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, on our altars is called by us the Blessed Sacrament, or the Holy Eucharist. No matter what title by which this special sign of God's love may be called, we honor and adore the presence of God around us in a manner no creature could dare have asked of his Creator.

To honor this great mystery of God's love for us, and to make reparation for the many sacrilegious profanations against the Blessed Sacrament through heresy and indifference, the feast of Corpus Christi was introduced into the Church, in 1264, with all due solemnity. In 1429, Pope Martin V added to this feast the observance of a public procession with the Blessed Sacrament, and he richly indulgenced this practice. God lives and walks among His creatures, and He will continue to do so until the end of time.Do all you can to honor and adore this great Gift of God. Make visits to the Blessed Sacrament often. Most especially, take part in the Procession on Sunday, June 22. There is no better means of proving our love and devotion.

OTHER MEANS TO COMBAT ABORTION

The battle against abortion, legalized or otherwise, is a readily identifiable work of Catholic Action. Since our goal is to remake society according to the plan of Christ the King, we must first labor at removing this unnatural scourge from our land.

Most methods for combatting abortion explain that when a woman chooses to have an abortion, she makes an immoral choice. The moral judgments against this choice begin with the understanding that an abortion is feticide, all the while reminding the mother-to-be (and the mother-in-fact) that she should not listen to the tales of modern sophistry: her body is not her own, but is a part of God’s creation. Therefore, she has no right to take her child’s life. Besides that, the child’s life in her womb is not her own life, so she has no power over life and death over that life either.

Since the “legalization” of abortion in the United States through the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, the battle to end abortion has been quite intense. Those who count themselves as “pro-life” know that for every argument we come up with to battle the crime of abortion, the “pro-choice” side develops a sophistic answer that all too many are ready to hear. Where is our “silver bullet” that will end this scourge once and for all? While there may be no instant answer to this question (for we are dealing with the fickleness and selfishness of human nature), there are two new avenues of approach that are worthy of our consideration.Reverse The Decision

Many pro-lifers are praying for the day that a more conservative Supreme Court will sit in Washington D.C. It is believed that when this day happens, such a Court will reverse the Roe v. Wade decision, and once more make abortion illegal in our land. Is this just wishful thinking? Perhaps. But, as we wait for this day, how about working to remove one of the main foundations of that immoral Court decision: that abortion is legal because it is protected by the U.S. Constitution. The Court said, in the 1973 decision, that having an abortion is a part of a woman’s “freedom of choice.” This “right,” the Court said, is based on the Fourteenth Amendment. It was a landmark decision, and the first time this Amendment was invoked in such a way. But, what if the Amendment itself is illegal? What if it can be proven that it was never ratified? Wouldn’t that change things? Yes it would, for the most important prop on which abortion stands as a legal entity in this country would be taken away. To find out more on the illegality of the Fourteenth Amendment, read The Phantom Fourteenth, a study authored by Patrick Henry Omlor. Long known for his research accuracy, Mr. Omlor’s work is a convincing proof that the Fourteenth Amendment was never ratified, and is therefore illegal. When this is known, and understood by Americans, then all of the false “liberties” in our country will fall like a house of cards. You can obtain The Phantom Fourteenth through CRI, or at http://www.thephantom14th.com for US$10.95, including domestic postage.

“Pro Choice” Is Really “Poor Choice”.

There is an ugly reality to abortion that is remaining untold: abortion is not a liberating, healthy choice. In most cases, women who submit to abortions only do so in response to the pressures of circumstances (or other people). Often, they simply feel that they have “no choice”: they have to end a human life. Such an action is not “pro choice,” but a “poor choice,” and this change in words does make a difference.

In the words of David C. Reardon, PhD., an advocate of the “Poor Choice” campaign: “The simple truth is that for most women, abortion costs more than the $400 collected by their abortionists. Millions of women are paying for their abortions each day in the form of intractable heartache, clinical depression, substance abuse, self-destructive behavior, impacted guilt, increased difficulties with marriage and parenting, infertility, miscarriage and premature births — to name just a few of the many complications commonly linked to abortion.” To get involved in the campaign to educate women about the “poor choice” made through abortion, go to http://www.PoorChoice.org. Help women see the emotional cost of an abortion.
