The three now friends
whizzed on into Space. Everything seemed to be fine and all was well, so Hannah
remarked, casually:
Wow. Everythings going
PERFECTLY!
NOOOOOOOO!
Jess cursed, falling to her knees.
What?! Hannah asked,
alarmed.
Dont SAY that! Jess said,
looking panicked. Youll JINX it!
Oh. Chriss voice drifted
over from the other side of the cockpit.
What? Hannah asked.
Theyreumtheyre
following us.
Oh, TITS! Hannah looked
back at Jess who merely fixed her with an icy glare over the top of her
glasses.
Told you. You PILLOCK.
Hannah turned to Chris. Can
this ship outrun them?
Id like to think so.
Chris drew himself up, proudly.
Yes, but lets be realistic? Jess said.
Chris fell quiet and started
to investigate something interesting under the desk.
Lets try this thing
Hannah jumped into a pilot seat and reviewed the controls.
Oi! Hands off my plane!
Chris leapt up.
Look, weve already been through this. Hannah said, sounding exhausted.
But-!"
And its not even a PLANE!
BUT-!
You actually have no
idea what youre doing, do you?
Hannah continued.
YES-!
Youre lost in Space with no fans, no TV
shows, no endorsements and no LIFE!"
NOOOO!
Chris buried his head in his hands.
STOP IT! Jess screamed. WHY, DO WITH
EVERY MAN THAT I LOVE, YOU PICK THEM APART, BELITTLE AND DESTROY THEM?!
YOURE SOMEAN!
There was a silence.
Well Hannah coughed
awkwardly. That was a long time coming
Love...? Chris looked
shocked.
Dont get any ideas. Jess snapped
quietly. Or actually
There was a huge explosion
and the ship shook and vibrated violently.
Well, seems like out answer
to the fastest ship has become apparent. Hannah muttered.
You cant even see out of the
back of this thing to where their ships are! Jess commented, looking around in desperation.
Yes, true. Chris said
quietly. That is a major design flaw.
Crappy-crappity-crap-crap.
Hannah muttered, shaking her head.
In every sci-fi movie Ive
seen, theres been a turbo button Jess muttered, her eyes searching the
controls desperately.
Yes, sorry to disappoint
you, Jess, but this isnt FICTION! Chris yelled over the noise of Hannah
trying to put out several small fires with an extinguisher.
Its notfiction. Yeah.
Yeah, thats right. Jess caught Hannahs eye.
Say NOTHING. Her friend
warned her.
Hey, whats that?! Chris pointed out of the windscreen to a big swirly
object.
YOURE
meant to be the knowledgable Space explorer you tell US!
Hannah yelled, dropping the fire extinguisher and coming over to see.
Could it be a worm-hole?
Jess suggested.
Oh, dont be so STUPID! Hannah snorted.
Yes, if youre not going to say anything
CREDIBLE, then maybe you should just keep QUIET! Chris added.
They passed a tiny asteroid
with a sign on it saying WORMHOLE 1 LIGHT YEAR and an arrow pointing to the
swirly thing.
Sorry, J. Hannah said in a
small voice.
Yes, sorry, Jess. Chris
agreed.
You OWE me for that. Jess
muttered, taking her socks off.
The ship shook violently.
Do you think theyll follow
us if we go in there?! Hannah asked.
Probably not Chris said.
Good!
but thats because only a
complete LUNATIC would go into a wormhole! He finished.
Hell, sounds about right. Hannah took
the controls and steered them into the centre of the wormhole.
I should remind you that
this is completely SUICIDAL!! Chris said after a scared and
anxious silence of 30 seconds had passed.
Youve done it before!
Jess exclaimed, trying to regain some confidence of some sorts.
Once again, J, difference of FICTION. Hannah pointed out.
Jess looked distraught and
tried to distract herself with some buttons on the control panel a hatch
above them opened and a small rubber ducky fell out and bounced on the floor
with a squeak. They all looked at Chris.
Soooo Chris started. That
wormhole, eh?! He chuckled nervously. Looks dangerous! He added light-heartedly.
Hannah and Jess exchanged a
brief puzzled look.
Hey, look! Jess pointed at
the display screen on the control panel which was currently focused on the
ships from the Space Station, still chasing them, albeit now cautiously. It
seemed that they had something to say, for on the front of their ships each
displayed a flashing message:
Dont go into that wormhole! Its SUICIDE!
The ship has a good point.
Chris pointed out.
Shut it. Jess and Hannah
both snapped.
The other two ships
displayed messages of a more pleading nature:
I have a wife and kids! Dont make me
follow you! and Im in love with the commander of the other ship, please dont take him away from me!
Interesting. Hannah
remarked.
One of the ships fired once more at them.
The hit was direct and caused Chriss ship to begin to spiral out of control;
around and around and around and (unsurprisingly) around once more whilst they
plummeted, like a dying duck, into the wormhole. Everything went black.
Hannah came to slowly.
Everything was black. She couldnt see a thing. Then she realised she had her
eyes shut. She opened them. Everything was STILL black. She sighed.
She heard another sigh from
someone else. This one sounded morewellcontented. She then noticed that she
was lying on top of someone.
J? Is that you taking my socks off?
HANNAH? Jess pushed her friend
off her. Gah!
Who did you THINK it was?
Somewhere in the dark there
was a groan, a few footsteps, a THUMP, and then an ARRRGH!.
Chris? Hannah ventured.
WHAT?! Came back a pained
voice.
Nothing, nothing. Hannah
replied, deciding silence, at this moment in time, was golden.
Where are we? What
happened? Jess asked, standing up carefully.
We went through the
wormhole andI dont remember anything else. Chris replied, clutching his
foot.
Got any lights? Hannah
asked, her hands stretched out in front of her to prevent her walking into
anything.
Yesif I
could find the control panel Chris muttered, also putting out his hands and
trying to work out where in the ship he was.
There was a general
scuffling as they all moved around in the dark.
Thats peculiar Chris
said, after a moment. IM SURE the control panel was hereIve no idea what
THIS is
Hannah followed his voice
and felt about a bit.
Jess, move your arse out of
the control panel, you SICK girl.
Jess swore and moved out the
way.
Suddenly the cockpit was flooded with light. Hannah
blinked away the glare and looked around. The cockpit was still intact, but
wires and pieces of metal were hanging from the ceiling. Outside the glass
windscreen it was pitch black.
"Where the hell are we?" Hannah breathed, trying to make something, anything
out in the darkness outside.
Chris tapped some instruments on the control panel. "The radar and satellite
don't have any records for this place. It could be that they're broken. If
not..."
"Are you saying that we're stuck in an unchartered place in Space?!" Jess
exclaimed.
"Not necessarily," Chris began. "Worm holes can cause movement through TIME, as
well as Space. This COULD be a well-known area of Space..."
"Yeah, several million years ago." Hannah muttered.
"Well, we can't tell until we get out there." Jess reflected.
"Oh, yes, Jess, go out into the pitch dark on a planet that we know NOTHING
about which could be massively dangerous-" Hannah started, crossly.
"Maybe it's night time," Jess said. "It might get light and we find that we
crashed on Earth. We don't know if we don't look." She paused. "And we won't
last long if we just stay here, with no water and no food."
"I have half a packet of Jaffa Cakes in the glove box." Chris said, hopefully.
"You're right. We WON'T last long." Hannah sighed. "Right, let's gather up some
torches and weapons and get going."
