Life in the jungle is peaceful - and more than a trifle dull! Everyday Leaf, and his best friend, Rainbow, do the same thing. They get up early in the morning, spend the day in the jungle harvesting fruit, and return to the monkey city of Arborea in the evening to swap tales and to chat with their families in the Great Nest. Leaf longs for adventure. He wants to leave Arborea and travel the Kingdom of Animals, perhaps one day visiting Queen Obsidia, the Lion Queen of all Animals, in the Palace at the centre of the Kingdom.

One day, Leaf's dreams come true, but perhaps the adventuring life isn't all he imagined it to be.
A visitor to Arborea, a bear named Loam, entrusts Leaf with a message to the Queen, and Rainbow is kidnapped by a band of strange, two legged creatures, leaving Leaf in a quandry whether to save Rainbow or deliver Loam's message to Queen Obsidia. Leaf's adventures lead him far from the monkey city, to the very edge of the Kingdom of Animals, into the forbidden place of Men and even to the very Palace itself.

Can Leaf save Rainbow and deliver his message before it is too late?
