AIR FILTERING
Wrong
Right
Air. Gotta have it, even when there is none. As far as what brand filters are the best, again personal preference. It sounds good to say "I run only K&N Filters", but, you can get 3 or 4 Fram filters for what one K&N cost. And bottom line is that as long as they are CLEAN, they ALL work fine.
On styles, yes, that polished Edelbrock sure looks great when you pop the hood, but guess what. Disaster waiting to happen. Think about the first hole you come to. You tear through it with ease, but by the second hole your truck is not wanting to idle and trying to stall. You soaked that brand new pretty filter and now your motor is gasping for air. Answer: Stick to the ugly plain old original fully enclosed breathers. Factory types. For really wet riding, they are the best.
Unless of course, you go to the next level in filters. Use a Snorkel system and forget about water troubles! They are not an OEM part, but, not all that hard to create one. Some use Aluminum Pipe, others use PVC. Just a matter of the actual air opening being raised to the highest possible point on the vehicle. Nothin like having water coming up the windshield and still crawling out the other side!
