I have recently been informed that Myanmar is not currently issuing the 3 month meditation visa. I suppose this is in reaction to the relief efforts for Cyclone Nargis. This restriction means Myanmar is no longer an option for the retreat - unless things change between now and the time I'm ready to depart.
I contacted Na Uyana, a forest monastery in Sri Lanka, about doing retreat there. They notified me that the monastery is currently at capacity with roughly 100 monks and laypeople in residence. They suggested checking back in December.
Bhaddekaratta hermitage in Malaysia has invited me to come in October. They said a 6 month stay would be fine. So for now that is the plan as long as I have sufficient funds by September. If not I will still embark on this retreat - just at a later date - as soon as funds allow it.
