Season Seven
Season Seven

Causa Mortis

Adam: "You'll need a second chair."
Jack: "I'm doing fine on my own."
Adam: "You're not getting paid all that money to look up cases in the library."

Jack: "I need someone who can put in the late hours."
Adam: "To watch the answering machine."

"If Doc Gooden can rise from the dead, why not Abe Mercer?"

"Half the time, he makes idiotic rulings in our favor."

"Your credibility is not a boomerang. You give it up, it doesn't come back!"

Jack: "I'm starting to doubt the Constitution, Adam."
Adam: "Well, you ought to move to Montana, live on a compound."

"Not to sound like a broken record..."

I.D.

"Sisters killing sisters...haven't seen that one for a week or two."

"Make sure your air bags are working!"

(sarcastically, after Jack complains about Marks dismissing the case): "It has nothing to do with the fact that all this time you had no idea what you were talking about."

Adam: "This is Joanne Sullivan you've got there in Rikers?"
Jack: "Who else could it be?"
Adam: "Please don't ask."

Good Girl

(reading from the newspaper): "Facts, not prejudice. Well, do we have any facts?"

Jack: "Not to mention her story pushes all the hot buttons: black on white crime, date rape, Rohypnol--did I forget anything?"
Adam: "Yes, common sense."

"If you think being called a racist by one hothead is bad, you appeal and see what happens."

"It's not enough to be busy, you have to look busy."

"Means, motive, opportunity--two out of three ain't bad."

"Four days of deliberation, what are they doing, electing a pope?"

Survivor

"Juries love rich defendants. They throw fancy victory parties."

"Another day, another defendant."

"How about the case of Phantom of the Opera? Did they drop by?"

"He does five years at Club Fed."

Corruption

Double Blind

"A manic depressive commits suicide. Somebody call Ripley's!"

Deadbeat

"You arrange the sance. Miss Ross will work out the plea bargain."

"You people don't have any other cases?"

Family Business

"A court anointed clergyman. I wonder how Cardinal O'Connor feels about being acquainted with Jeffrey Arbaugh."

Jack: "We can ask for a continuance."
Adam: "Because your case is out the window?"

"Game playing's over. Finish the trial."

Entrapment

"I see. The FBI never makes mistakes. Ever heard of Ruby Ridge?"

Legacy

Jack: "Blood is thicker."
Adam: "Yeah, maybe Estelle Mueller's blood is a little too thick for the arteries going to her brain. She's willing to plead. Go figure that one out."
Jack: "If I follow her orders about whom to prosecute."
Adam: "Good luck to her. I have enough trouble getting you to follow mine."

Jamie: "We can find out if there really were rats in that laundry room."
Adam: "You volunteering for the assignment?"

Jamie: "I can talk to other people: friends, neighbors..."
Adam: "Sure, maybe someone saw him lean a ladder against her window."

Menace

"Throw the book at him. When the grand jury throws it back, don't get hit in the head."

"And who has evidence of this conspiracy, Mack the Knife?"

"Maybe these crooks work on the layaway plan."

Barter

"The only pattern here is you got no facts!"

Matrimony

"He was 74, she was 22?"

"When am I going to have the pleasure of seeing this lawyer on the other end of a bail application?"

"You'll hear it again, I promise you. The butler did it."

Working Mom

"What's next? Campfire girls selling crack?"

Jamie: "She had two good reasons to kill him--he was raping her and he might expose her secret."
Adam: "One gets her acquitted, the other gets her 25 to life."

"One fact, two sharp edges. You're going to need an extra large box of Band-Aids."

"She's hoping they'll erect a statue for her on 12th Avenue."

D-Girl (LA Trilogy Part One

Turnaround (LA Trilogy Part Two)

"What the devil is Gorton up to? Trying to lure you out to sunny L.A. to see you in a bathing suit?"

"Maybe our extradition papers were written with the wrong ink."

"He can start an acting workshop."

"I want you to kick the living daylights out of Neal Gorton. You can dig up Thomas Dewey to help you. You're going to win this case. Whatever you have to do, I want a conviction!"

Showtime (LA Trilogy Part Three

[A newspaper article says Gorton discussed a plea bargain]:
Adam: "Now this news I like."
Jack: "Shake her hand, Adam. I'm just an old-fashioned prosecutor--I try cases."
Adam: "Makes 'em look weak."
Jack: "How things look to some general audience is not relevant in a courtroom."
Adam: "Oh, will you wake him up, Miss Ross? We're approaching the 21st Century. It matters, Jack. When are you going to get a new tie?" SHTP

Jack: "We're getting creamed."
Adam: "It's nice that you and the media have finally agreed on something."

(after Jack says he needs help): "Call Miss Ross. Maybe you two can share the baby-sitting."

"You better bring something besides your boyish charm."

Schiff: "Started with a murder, ends with an execution. You got what you wanted. Take the rest of the week off."
McCoy: "It's Friday, Adam."
Schiff: "So it is. See you on Monday."

Mad Dog

"It's legally brilliant, bound to be a hit with the public, and you have no business doing it."

Jack: "I'm prosecuting a murder, I'm not looking to save pennies."
Adam: "By the way, how's that case going? He hasn't led his police escort to a secret stash of evidence? I'm shocked!"

"A.C....oh boy!"

"If this lie doesn't get Darnell out of the neighborhood, try a lynch mob."

"You can thumb your nose at a federal judge, but I won't let you drag the law through the sewer to catch a rat."

Double Down

Jamie: "Bell just dropped off her motion to dismiss."
Adam: "Yeah, she was just waiting for the indictment number to stick in the heading."

"He confessed to a murder to avoid being prosecuted for a murder. I'm putting this one in my memoirs."

We Like Mike

"And if he never calls back, you've got nothing and we look like amateurs."

"Nice to know that the entire criminal justice system rises or falls on the decency of a Mike Bodak."

Passion

"An EZ Pass won't look loyal and forlorn on the witness stand."

"Why should he confess? You'll probably be arresting someone else tomorrow."

Past Imperfect

Jack: "Nine out of ten kids find their parents, say hello, and get on with their lives."
Adam: "Now we have to deal with the tenth one."

(on Marjorie Larson): "Good choice! She'll convince the jury Christine Sandler took parenting lessons from Susan Smith." SHTP

"Nice going, you made her cry. That'll win you points in the jury room." SHTP

Jack: "Make sure Douglas Burke gets a full transcript of Sonya Harland's allocution. This way there'll be something to collect when he sues her... for his mother's wrongful death."
Adam: (shaking his head) "Lawyers..." SHTP

Terminal

Keener: "My people think it fits the requirements of the death penalty."
Adam: "If you turn the penal law into a bag of pretzels."SHTP

"If the governor wanted the statute to cover this crime, he should have thought of that when he wrote it."

"I don't like ultimatums."

"I'm doing criminal justice, I'm not doing politics."

"You do what you have to do. You're still welcome to my scotch."

"I'm going to take the governor to court!"

Adam: "Mulroy only gives the governor VIRTUALLY unfettered discretion to take over a case."
Jack: "You're gonna hang your hat on virtually?"
Adam: "He could have said absolutely!"

"We're going to give the governor a little history lesson."

"I don't see the bottle of champagne."

"Always trust a jury!"
