Did you Know?

What are DNA tests?

DNA (Ceoxyribonucleic Acid) test was developed by Dr Alec Jefferys in 1985 in England. From 1987 onwards the test was accepted by the legal system in order to prove cases of rape, robbery murder and even paternity suits. It was introduced in India in 1988 by Dr V.K. Kashyap at the Hyderabad Central Forensic Laboratory.

The coded genetic information hidden in the DNA is unique for every person. Each cell in our body has an equal number of chromosomes from the father and mother. The chromosomes contain DNA, which encodes the person’s unique genetic make-up. So, it is easy to identify a body by blood sample, hair, sperm, etc.

What is the difference between a turtle and tortoise?

Turtles, tortoises and terrapins all belong to a group of four legged reptiles that have hard outer shells, scaly skins, and horny beaks. The turtle is a sea reptile, the tortoise a land reptile and the terrapin a fresh water reptile.

Why do ocean currents occur?

The ocean currents are invariably caused by wind. Prevailing winds blow the water at the surface of the oceans. The winds blow across land as well as sea. The ocean currents they cause do not stop or pile up against the land. So counter-currents develop.

Ocean currents are important because they move water from warm to cool areas. Currents that move away from the Equator are warm currents. Those that move towards the Equator are cool currents.
