The Epic of Dalen Grey

I didn't know who those men that came to attack me the night before. It's safe to think they were his hired hands. If there is something more going on then I'm aware of, I have Ondre watching my home to cover the chance of an ambush.

I was about to start off the day with a trip to the guard house like I often do, but I think there was something strange going on in town while I was on my way. There are now a few imperial soldiers in town, not Just the normal city guards I was use to but trained for combat armies. The company was a small one, I would estimate there are not any more then two hundred troops in the town. The standard city guards where both the police and the army in this town, there is no need for anymore then that, at least I use to think that. Soldiers are moved around alot, at times erratically to the rest of the people, but there is always a strategy, I hope its a public work that is gonna benefit Draun.

I don't think stopping to examine troops is a good use of my time. They pose very little threat to me. They are, at the moment at least, are Just building a temporary base. I have important matters, I need to make money and hopefully help a city from collasping from the inside.

The guard tower is busier then usual, but Sargent Keen has time to speak it seems.

"Dalen, what happened on that mission? There is a problem."

"I walked in, I defended myself and I left. Thats all, I left before they could gang up on me."

"I have a mission. It pays two hundred drakers and it calls the the assassination of fugitive in the slums."

"I'll take it Keen."

"I don't think thats wise Dalen, its you."

"What? Who posted it?"

"I don't know. I trust you Dalen, but I don't trust the people that posted the bounty. You should leave now before your noticed. Take this note with you, I wish to help you in this matter."

"I'll get to the bottom of this, I swear it"

I left without much notice and made it back home. I read the note alone to myself.

It read "Dalen, a very influencial force has issued a bounty on your head, two hundred drakers. I wish I could throw the bounty to the wind, but I have to take orders like everyone else. I can mislead them the best I can. They have a discribtion of you and a list offenses, some of which you did for me, but not much else. Watch out for assassins and mercenaries, that is a large sum on your head, I can only keep the guards away from you. I don't know who is responsible, but I'll work to find out. Stay safe and good luck."

As shocking as it was, I needed to continue my work. A lot is at stake and if someone posts a bounty I must be close to something. I will have to work on a plan to clear myself. In the meanwhile, I'll Just have to protect myself and stay hidden in doors if I can.
