I still feel alittle uneasy about making a deal with the Council of Elders. They remind me of a snake in the grass, you don't know when when they are gonna run off into a whole and when they will strike out of no where. What I wonder is if dealing with the snake to take on a wolf is a smarter choice. I could Just wait for information to help me with the Dragon Foot Clan, but I seldom wait for anything. I think its best to get other work done in the meantime until I get a real mission. I headed for the guard tower hoping to find a new bounty. I have developed somewhat of a companion in the head guard Sargent Keen. "Welcome Dalen, you must be getting popular." "Why do you say that?" "We have a special request Just for you. I was hoping you were gonna be in here today." "Whats the mission?" "They requested you break up a secret meeting. Apparently a maJor deal for illegal herbs are gonna be traded. They claimed they were a concerned citizen, but I have my doubts. Its out of our territory, so its up to you if you wish to take it." This seems like Just the way Delick would operate. This might be my cue for my first mission. I hope the pay is worth the effort. "I'll take it. Thanks sargent." He saluted in soldierly fashion. I Just noded and walked away. I had a mission ahead of me. I waited there for a couple hours. I was starting to get cold. I waited Just long enough. Just when the cold almost forced me away, I heard voices in the distance. "I have twenty black garnel roots. From the finest plants on the Elypsian planes. You have two hundred drakers I hope." "Would you like to count it." From where I was I heard sack of change in the distance. I can wait no longer. I came out of hiding to confront the two men. I grabbed him from behind and he dropped the sack of money on the ground. I threw him forward into the next guy. He dropped what he was carrying to fight. The other man ran off. I parried and dodge and very quickly knocked the sword from his hand. He reached in his pocket and with a quick motion, there was nothing but a cloud of dust and my eyes burned. When I could see once again I noticed they were gone. To my surprise, the money was gone but the roots had been left behind. I brought them back to the Sargent Keen at the guard tower. "They got away? Well, I can't give you the bounty without the criminals." "I understand, that was the deal." "You did good work Dalen. This plant causes people to do strange and sometimes vicious things. You might have saved the city alot of hassle. I can't give you payment, but you have my thanks." I know I helped out in the city, but I would feel better about it if I had money in my pocket. There wasn't much I could do, I only wish that he left the money behind when he ran away. I had the rest of the night in a bar to think of what went wrong. |
