The Epic of Dalen Grey

I did not have a pleasant rest. I would not call it rest at all. I barely slept and I woke up sore in about every place I had a muscle. Its been less then a day and I already started planing my escape. I was starting to feel pretty confident in my plan and perhaps alittle proud the more I thought of it. I wish I would only get the chance.

"Dalen, get up you can go."

"Its about time, wheres my stuff."

"We have witnesses claiming you were Just standing there before you were attacked. You have done the city of Draun a great service capturing Brick. I apologize for keeping you here."

"I Just want my sword and my armor. I am not gonna wait around for you to kiss my feet."

He looked alittle angry at first but quicly shut up. He returned my equipment. He had always been respectful to me and I figured it was only fair. I looked at him and respectfully and said "thanks."

"Welcome, I apologize again Dalen."

I left there alittle less then angry. The walk helped to shake off the cramps. I think next time I will Just run. That was Just not worth the time. I stopped and bought the things I was unable to get before. I'm sure that they must be hungry. I return to an interrogation.

"What did you do Dalen, grow all of that food by hand."

"I had some trouble with guards."

"Breaking the law Dalen? I'm so proud, I didn't think you had it in you."

"I was innocent."

"Oh of course, so was I. Both times."

"It not like that. I was Just..."

"Don't worry about it Dalen, I wouldn't want you to spoil the image in my head."

I Just let it go. He sometimes got into a mood and there was arguing with him. He talks like a big criminal, but I think he is less crooked then wants to appear.

I talked with Elizia. I explained what happened to me. She was always kind enough to listen to me. She wasn't mad about what happened either. Nothing happened at the bar that night anyway. Things might have Just calmed down without any retaliation. We talked about when it would be safe for the girls to go home. Later into the night she wanted to talk to me about something. She made sure she was in the back alone.

"Dalen hun, I have information for you. Delvori wants to talk to you about the kidnapping. I was suppose to give you a message but you were gone."

I was shocked to hear her say his name. It confirmed that she knew him but it raised alot more questions.

"How do you know about him."

"It's a long story hun. I must tell you something first. I am taking a risk telling you this. They are powerful people. They control the whole merchant district Just like the Dragon Foot Clan run this area. They have a new leader. He is very paranoid and I Just learned he is trying to take over the slums. He is doing it in secret."

"Why in secret. He could march right in and take over."

"That would cause a war hun. Thats the last they want. One riot in the street leads to another, and thats a threat to there power. They are trying bring them down from the inside and in secret. People like us get caught up in his scheme."

"I knew there was something wrong with them."

"I don't think you know as much as you think dear. They have made threats to me. It wasn't so bad to begin with but its getting worse. Its getting worse then the Dragon Foot Clan now that the balance of power is shifting. Once they saw you in a fight they asked me to hire you to take them out. I couldn't refuse them."

I was about to get very angry. "You knew about this the whole time and you didn't tell me."

"Please hun, I'm trying to help you. I was caught in a trap and my girls paid for it and I can't continue to take either of there sides. I hope you understand dear, I'm very sorry this has happened."

"So what happens now?"

"I don't know. For as long as I can remember, the Dragon Foot Clan and the Council of Elders have share control of this city. Now they are bound to overthrow the others. I need you to continue your work but investigate into whats going on here. I trust you dear and I don't want this city to desend into barbarism."

"I understand. I'll find out what I can."

"Thank you Dalen, your a very sweet young man."

I didn't know how to take this news. I could only take her word for it. It seemed very important, I would have to solve this and first, I would have to meet with Delvori in the morning and pretend I know nothing.
