Steve's Column

Before you begin to read my column, there is one thing you must keep in mind. These are strictly my opinions, thus if you find any of this offensive, this page is not for you. You need to be an open-minded person and understand that every one has the right to their own opinion's and freedom of speech in this country. Each week there will be an issue that is talked about. Again, these are simply my views on what is going on in the world around me. It can involve current events, political issues, sports, games, etc. Enjoy!

This paticular column is pertaining to our government (United States of America). To start,

No, I'm not the type of person that thinks, "I hate everything about our government."
Believe me. I know that we are a lot better off then a lot of other countries. There are just a lot of other problems that need to be addressed in this country then the ones that are.

To begin, we were hit by a few of our own planes. What does the government do but declare that Iraq had something to do with it? We go there to bomb and destroy quite a few building's too get the cowardly leaders out of hiding. Then after that's said and done we do not find the magnitude of weapon's we thought we would find. Then we start attacking our leaders who declared the war to begin with.

Now do not get me wrong, I am not all that content with Bush and some of his ideas, but I do stand behind his decision to fight. What if we just did nothing about getting hit? We would look as if we are inviting every terrorist into this country to do as they please with our country. I for one do not think America is a weak country. We are the super power of the world and we deserve to be treated as such. Well, we surely don't treat our own people like we are. Which brings me to my next thought.

I can remember hearing on the news that Mr. Bush tried to do away with overtime pay at work. This would be and is a big mistake. Could you imaging all the families that depend on that overtime to pay there bills? If overtime was done away with a lot of 2 income families would have to become a 3 income family. Then you know what would happen? The divorce rate would sky rocket! Why do you ask? Well, husbands and wives would never see each other. They would grow out of love and then separate. The divorce rate in this country is already at 65% and average of 7.2 years. That doesn't need help getting any higher. Another great decision, by President Bush, was when he said, "Lets send man to Mars." Why in Gods name do we have to go to Mars? We have so many starving and homeless people in our own country as it is. [Yes America they are there.] We just choose not to look their way. We are going to spend millions probably even billions on sending man to Mars. That's money we could use to do away with homelessness. What's with Bush's plan to make all of America unemployed? All I hear is that another factory is closing and re-opening in another country. There should be no more of that. Maybe if we banned together and stopped importing merchandise from other countries, then maybe the employment would stay here.

I read in the paper a while ago that after we bombed Iraq. We are now going to give them 57 billion dollars of tax paying money. WHAT the hell are they thinking! We don't even pay our citizens that when there's a national disaster causing more damage to our homes, such as tornadoes, earthquakes, fires, etc; then what we caused in Iraq. The victims of 9/11 that STILL are suffering from what had happened to them and their loved ones. Where is there 57 billion dollars for them? How do they cope with the loss of a loved one? Loss of income? Who is helping them? Not their government! So we gave IRAQ 57 billion, because they bombed us. So next time when they destroy the heart of this country. Why not give them another 100 billion!

Onto my next thought. I understand that driving is a privilege but some people should not be able to hold a license. There are people out there that drink and drive constantly. We have others that can not go one year with a car without totaling it. Somehow they keep driving! Now my issue on this is when you buy a car, you have to register it. Now this I agree on, but I don't agree with having to re-register my vehicle ever year. Why should I have to redo it every year? What do they throw the records out on my birthday? It's just another way for our government to get our money! God forbid I don't register it every year. There are cops lurking all over the place that are just waiting to see you have forgotten to pay Uncle Sam his yearly bonus. Another thing, why should I have to pay out a lot of money every month for insurance? I could see if I got into a lot of accidents, but it's unnecessary. The government doesn't require that I get renters insurance for my apartment. Even if your record is completely clean you still have to pay excessive amounts. I can only imagine what someone has to pay if their record is horrid. Driving is not a privilege but, it shouldn't be taxed to the point where you have to decide whether to pay a bill or keep driving legally.

Final Thought:
All in all there are a lot of things in this country that need to change before we start trying to fix everyone else in the world. They have been doing fine without our help for thousands of years and should probably stay that way unless they come to us for a loan NOT a 57 billion dollar gift certificate.
