The CFC at Shillong was inaugurated on the 27th January 2002. Shri S.S.Gupta, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Industries Department on his inaugural speech said that training at CFC is to inculcate, imbibe the ingredients of "value addition" to the cane & bamboo products, which will help in better marketing of the products. Further he added that the training at CFC, besides production techniques, would include various aspects of manpower development like, capacity building, organisation, marketing and business planning, etc. He also intended that the functioning of CFC will generate employment avenues at various levels and facilitate interaction between different sectors of business communities.
