1st batch - Training programme at CFC

 
     
     
 

The Capacity cum Training programme began on the day the CFC  was inagurated and stretched for a period of two (2) months. 46 (Forty Six) Artisans belonging to different AHVY Cluster/ UNDP Cluster including some local Artisans reported for Training on the day of Inauguration. The breakup of the participants was as given below:
1. UNDP Cluster, Mawsynram                                  – 10 Artisans

2. Sohra AHVY Cluster, Cherrapunjee                      – 12 Artisans

3. Nengsangre AHVY Cluster, Williamnagar               – 13 Artisans

4. Local Artisans Deputed by different NGO Groups  - 11 Artisans

This was the first training to be conducted at the CFC and in the beginning it ran into various difficulties ranging from infrastructural delays, lack of sufficient manpower, financial setbacks and the dropping out of a number of participating artisans. Despite these setbacks the training proceeded as planned and was completed in a most satisfactory way.

In the course of the programme under the Guidance and advise of the Consultant Shri. P.S. Babar, Deputy Director (Design), RD&TDC(NER), a Designer Ms.Piku Saha from Guwahati was appointed for teaching in the Training Programme. Two local Resource Persons Ms. Nitasha Chakraborty,
Board of Directors, INGON and Ms. Hasina Kharbhih, President, INGON and an Instructor, Ms. Bill Kynter, UNDP Cluster, Mawsynram, were also appointed for the programme. The Resource persons under the guidance of  the consultant accordingly developed course materials and also jigs and moulds for the Products to be developed during the training. Design patterns for the purpose were given by Hasina Kharbhih, who had already had obtained a supply order for such specific Products. The Team Managed to produce 3 (Three ) Standard Prototypes during this short span of time.

1 .Tea bags, 2. Lady’s bag and the 3. lamp Shades. This consignment of Products was sent to Bangkok for test Marketing and Participation in an Exhibition there which recieved a very positive response. The structure of the course for the training programme was divided into four stages

1. Basic Weaving techniques and product making
2. Basic Carpentry
3. Tools and machine operation
4. Usage of raw material
5. Product pricing of finished products

The structure of the training programme was to create an awareness among the trainees on the various aspects of product design. This approach was to ensure that the trainees understand the importance of production in its relation to the market; it’s values and requirements.
