Aims, Objectives & Support
The training programme in the CFC will be conducted
initially, for the artisans of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas
Yojana (AHVY) clusters located in different parts of Meghalaya. The
artisans, who are members of the Self-help Groups formed under the AHVY
clusters have basic skills. However, to produce marketable items, more
designs and technical inputs are required to be provided to them to upgrade
their skills and train them in management and capacity building. Range of
cane and bamboo items which are in demand in the market will be produced at
the CFC after completion of the training. The Implementing Agency will help
in the marketing of the products by encouraging the trainees to participate
in exhibitions, melas, and other self promotion programmes that may be
organised by the Government or Non Government Agencies and introduce to the
artisans basic management skills so that they become self reliant to conduct
their own business.
The Consultant is a very important figure of the CFC Project. Appointed by the Development Commissioner(Handicrafts), New Delhi, this person is responsible for the proper conduct of the training programme. He/She in co-ordination with the local Asst. Director(DCH) helps in the selection of the trainees, designers and trainers. The Consultant together with Designer(s) and Trainer(s) will identify prototypes for production out of which will be selected or short listed for mass production. The Implementing Agency will help also in upgradation of the AHVY Cluster with introduction of modern information systems and new machines and tools etc. At present the production of items, both utility and decorative, are being conducted at the CFC. There are other Agencies, who are providing support in running the programmes at CFC. They have different roles to play for making the programmes effective and are individually responsible for making each programme a success. IMPULSE NGONETWORK, Shillong is the IMPLEMENTING AGENCY. The MANAGING DIRECTOR, MEGHALAYA HANDLOOM & HANDICRAFTS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, LTD., Shillong is the NODAL AGENCY. The DEPUTY DIRECTOR(DESIGN),REGIONAL DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, NORTH EASTERN REGION (RDTDC), Guwahati is the CONSULTANT of the Project. The ASSISTANT DIRECTOR(HANDICRAFTS),GOVT. OF INDIA, MINISTRY OF TEXTILES, MARKETING & SERVICE EXTENSION CENTER, Shillong co-ordinates the programme with the Consultant. THE DEVELOPMENT COMMISSIONER (HANDICRAFTS), GOVERMENT OF INDIA, MINISTRY OF TEXTILES, New Delhi support the CFC Project with finance and monitor the functioning / working of the Project. This being the first of such UNDP Project, the Shillong CFC is being watched very keenly by all.
