Queen Anne - Saltbox - Spanish Colonial -
Split Entry
- Queen Anne (19th Century) Similar although
more ornate than Eastlake.
An American original designed for the upper-middle
classes. The style is currently experiencing
a revival of interest. Generally,
the larger
the Queen Anne house, the larger
the number
of interesting attributes that were
used
that defined the style. Color was
important
and complex paint designs were applied.
- The Saltbox had a roof that extended down
to the first floor at the rear of
the home.
The additional space was used for a kitchen,
pantry, and a bedroom. On the right is the
John Adams Saltbox as it looked in 1893.
- Spanish Colonial Revival (1926-1936)- This
is a good study of the Spanish Colonial
Revival
style that occurred during the 1920s
. The building is located in the Southwest
Community. The style originated in California,
but seems to have spread across the country
when this Spanish Mission style was used
for resort hotels operated by a western railroad.
- The Split Entry or Raised Ranch - A variation
of the one story ranch style home
with approximately half of the basement
above ground.
