Queen Anne - Saltbox - Spanish Colonial - Split Entry



  • Queen Anne (19th Century) Similar although more ornate than Eastlake. Queen Anne StyleAn American original designed for the upper-middle classes. The style is currently experiencing a revival of interest. Generally, the larger the Queen Anne house, the larger the number of interesting attributes that were used that defined the style. Color was important and complex paint designs were applied.









  • The Saltbox had a roof that extended down to the first floor at the rear of the home. The additional space was used for a kitchen, pantry, and a bedroom. On the right is the John Adams Saltbox as it looked in 1893.











  • Spanish Colonial Revival (1926-1936)- This is a good study of the Spanish Colonial Revival style that occurred during the 1920sThe Old Mayflower Congregation Church on Diamond Lake Road, Minneapolis, Minnesota.. The building is located in the Southwest Community. The style originated in California, but seems to have spread across the country when this Spanish Mission style was used for resort hotels operated by a western railroad.










  • The Split Entry or Raised Ranch - A variation of the one story ranch style home with approximately half of the basement above ground.
