FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q.
Are you sponsored by eBay?
A. No. We are not sponsored by eBay. We
are affiliated with eBay, Inc. in that we have a Sellers Account (in Good
Standing) with eBay and we are certified by eBay as an Official
Trading Assistant. We are a private third party providing a listing
service to anyone that wishes to sell on eBay, but without having to do any of
the work. eBay listing services such as ours are legitimate business enterprises
and accepted by eBay. While there are many eBay listing services throughout the
world, IndyeBay
is based in and provides services to the Indianapolis metropolitan area and we
maintain a commission structue much below our competition.
Q.
Is there a contract involved in using your services? A. Yes. Click here to see a blank contract
for you to review prior to using our service.
You may also use this form to initiate services with us.
Q. What happens if my item doesn't sell? A. If your item does not sell and did not receive any bids, you have the choice of re-listing the item or picking the item up from our office. If you choose to pick up the item, there is a minimum commission of $9.00 that you must pay before picking up the item. The $9.00 minimum commission is a nominal charge to cover our costs to create your auction. Please refer to our contract for details or contact us if you have other questions about this. If you choose to have us re-list the item and the item sells on the next try, we will waive the $9.00 commission from the first attempt. Unfortunately, you will need to pay the eBay Insertion Fee for any relistings as eBay does not credit this back. All other terms of the contract will still apply on the relisting attempt to sell the item, including a new Insertion Fee. As long as you are willing to pay the Insertion Fees (which in most cases is only a few cents) we will keep re-listing the item for you as many times as you want. We will not charge any commissions until the final outcome.
Q.
Why didn't my item sell? A. This is not always an easy question to answer. There are too
many variables. Sometimes the answer is obvious like, the starting bid was too
high or it's the wrong time of year or the item just isn't in demand. Sometimes
the answer is not so obvious. Demand for certain items can fluctuate drastically
from one day to the next. It's a buyers market and sometimes the market can be
fickle. None of us has any control over this. The only assurance we can offer is
that we will do everything within our power to get your item noticed and give it
the best chance of being sold.
Q.
What can I sell on eBay?
A. Almost anything sells on eBay! However, not all
items sell well or fetch the desired for price. That’s why we research the
demand and value of your item ahead of time, to see if similar items are selling
on eBay and what the average selling price is.
Q.
Is there anything I cannot sell on eBay? A. Yes. eBay has lists of
prohibited, questionable and potentially infringing items. To view their list click
here. IndyeBay
does not accept items that appear on these lists. We can also provide you with a
hard copy of this list.
Q.
What sells the best on eBay?
A. That is the eternal question. If we knew the
exact answer, we would already be retired and living in the Bahamas.
Fortunately, eBay makes it a little easier by publishing a monthly report on
what items are in highest demand. This report changes frequently so it is a good
idea to check it often and maybe even print it out as a reminder. To view their
current report click
here. The report is in PDF format so you will need Adobe
Acrobat Reader to view it. This is a free download. We can also provide you
with a hard copy of this list.
Q.
Can I track the auctions that you list for me? A. Absolutely! For
every item we list for you, we send you an e-mail with a link to that auction
page. That way you can see how many visitors have been to your page and watch
the bidding from beginning to end.
Q.
Can I or my friends bid on my auctions? A. No. That is not allowed unless
you or your friends actually plan on buying the item. Placing bids without the
intent to buy, just to inflate the bid is called "shill bidding"
and is against eBay policy. It is also against our policy. Anyone caught doing
so will have their auctions terminated immediately and will be charged a $75
cancellation fee for each cancelled auction as per our contract. Trust us; it's
not worth the risk.
Q.
Can I choose what the minimum starting bid will be for my Item? A. Yes. You may
set the starting bid at whatever you like. Keep in mind that if the starting bid
is too high, early viewers of your auction may be scared off. Having a lower
starting bid sometimes helps to get the ball rolling. Based upon our research,
we will advise you on the best starting price for your item. Statistically, most
serious bidders will then wait until the last few minutes of the auction to
place their final bid. Frenzied bidding during the last two minutes is quite
common. The starting bid you choose also affects the Insertion Fee charged by
eBay.
Q.
Can you set a Reserve Price for my item? A. We can, but we recommend against it. A Reserve Price,
which is always hidden, can sometimes work against you. But if you really feel
you need it, we will do it for you. In certain cases, there can be some
advantages. A better solution is to have the bidding start at the absolute
minimum you're willing to sell the item for. Contact us and we'll explain the
logic behind this strategy.
Q.
How many pictures can I have on showing on my auctions? A. We will display as many
pictures as necessary to promote your item at no additional cost to you. While
eBay charges an additional fee for each picture uploaded to their site beyond
the first one, we do not. We can host additional pictures from our own webserver
to save you the additional fees. This, of course, is done within reason. There
are times when showing different angles and views of an item are necessary to
give an accurate representation of the item. In other cases, this isn't
necessary and won't be done. This is at our discretion. If you need further
explanation on this, please don't hesitate to ask. We'd be happy to go into more
detail and give you examples of different picture related scenarios.
Q.
Do I ever have to deal with bidders or buyers either directly or by e-mail?
A. No. As part of our service, we take care
of that for you. Answering e-mails all week from potential bidders can take
quite a chunk out of your busy schedule. We do it so you don't have to. The main
point of our service to you is to make selling on eBay completely effortless for
you.
Q.
How do you deal with returns and refund requests from buyers? A. Because of the way
our service and auctions are structured, we usually won't have to deal with
that. All items are sold as is without warranties. The only exception we could
foresee is where the item was misrepresented, like in the case of an antique or
collectible. Chances are we'll have already paid you before this problem comes
to light. In this case we would absorb the loss and re-list the item with a
modified description at our earliest convenience. You, of course, will never
have to deal with this situation while using our services. However, if you are
selling an antique or collectible, we require thorough documentation on that
item to prevent us from falling into this predicament.
Q.
Do I have to package and ship my items to the buyers? A. No. We do that for
you. We package each item very carefully to insure it is not damaged during
transport. We wouldn't want to issue a refund for damaged goods anymore than you
would. Fortunately, this won't even be a concern for you when you use our
services.
Q.
Do you provide other services?
A. YES, IndyeBay
provides a variety of additional services such as Item Pick Up, Official
Appraisals, Liquidation Assistance and Shipping Consultation.
Q.
What is "feedback?"
A. On eBay, buyers and sellers are encouraged to
leave feedback for each other after the completion of a transaction. There are
three types of feedback -- Positive, negative and neutral. We always leave
positive feedback for buyers after making prompt payment. We leave negative
feedback for winning bidders that do not follow through with payment. The more
positive feedbacks you have showing in your eBay profile, the better you look to
other buyers and sellers when you personally participate in an auction.
IndyeBay
proudly
boasts 100% Positive eBay Feedback!
Q.
Can I have positive feedback copied over to my eBay user profile?
A. Unfortunately, that isn't possible to do the way
the eBay system is set up. The only way to receive or post feedback of any kind
is to run the auction yourself.
Q.
Do I need an eBay User ID to use your services? A. No. All of the
auctions are listed under our User ID. When we send you links to your auctions,
you will still be able to view them without signing in or having your own User
ID.
Q.
Do I need a PayPal account to get paid by you after my auctions end?
A. No. Mailing a check to you instead of
using PayPal is no problem. The choice is yours on how you want to receive
payment.
Q. How soon after my item sells can I expect payment from you? A. The first thing we have to do after an auction ends is to wait for payment from the buyer. We will allow them up to 5-7 days to do so. After we receive payment, we process and send out payments twice a month. This is usually on the 1st and the 16th unless those dates fall on a weekend or holiday. In those cases, we send out payments on the next business day. If we have already processed your payment, you can come by our office and pick up a check, but be sure and make an appointment first so we can have it ready for you. Payments sent to PayPal accounts are only sent on the 1st and 16th of the month.
