| Dear Family and Friends, Aloha! How are you doing? I hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits. If I told you I'm walking 60 miles for 3 days to help the breast cancer cause, would you support me? On October 18, I will be participating in a very special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. The net proceeds will support the mission of Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Their mission is to fund access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on medically underserved women. This year, according to the American Cancer Society, over 182,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Over 40,000 will die. Men can develop breast cancer too, although its incidence is low. In 2002, 1,500 male cases are projected to be diagnosed, and 400 men will die from the disease. In September of 1997, I lost my mother to breast cancer. In remembrance of her five year anniversary, I've taken it upon myself to do something bold, walking 60 miles for her and for all women. Those steps are symbols of research, education and funding steps for breast cancer. I'm committed to raise at least $1,900 in donations by September 7th, 2002. But I need your help. Any donation you can make to help me meet my commitment would be very much appreciated. I've enclosed a donation form for you with an self address stamped envelope. Please look the form over and designate the amount that's right for you. Please know that I deeply appreciate any amount you feel comfortable donating. And, as important as your monetary support is, I will also appreciate your prayers as I embark on this incredible journey. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me--as I to will be sharing it with you.
