               Torch's Pedigree

Torch is that newest edition to the animal family, coming to me from Kandy and Michele. Having been away from Breed Ring for too many years, I am really excited with what lays ahead. This little guy has a lot of live up to, following in the footsteps of distant cousins, Sprout and Crumpet, in the endeavor of Championship and Performance Sports. I did not realize how much fun and what a difference having a younger Corgi was compared to a Sporting Breed like Niven. Where Niven offers challenge of height and modes of thinking, Torch is following a familiar pattern of "way to inventive" as he figures how to go about things. ( I often wonder how I even managed Obedience with any of them. )

Now at about eleven months of age, Torch has grown into the adolescent adult that everyone loves. I am truly enjoying showing him in the Breed Ring, especially since it has been years since there was the thrill of finishing another pup's championship. We have been attending a Handling Class where I get beat up and Torch looks good. I guess that is fun for the dog, right? I have been practicing those old skills learned years ago and rehone them now when I enter Torch in a show. I have only shown him a few times and each time we walk away with the new experience well received and new things to practice on.

Since the winter months were bitterly cold this year, I have not done much with any of the dogs other then Handling or Agility class once a week. Now that warmer months are coming, I am looking forward to some "on the ground" Agility for Torch and getting with that Rally-O. There really is no rush with him only because come June he will turn a year old. There is always lots and lots of time to do all the fun stuff.

For now, we are entering one day of a weekend of shows to get both of us into the swing of the show routine. That has really paid off for me, as I have to re-learn how to balance travel, grooming and ring. Torch on the other hand gets to learn how to stand still and not sniff the grass when walking..........

Had a blast attending the PWC of the Potomac Specialty with Torch and Niven. I forgot how much fun it was to live out of a hotel for three days and the walk to the show. Corgis were everywhere with the occasional 'honorary corgi' mixed in. At least Niven did not feel too out of place, just appeared disappointed no one asked for her to play with their pups.

With the warmer temperatures, most if not all shows will head outdoors and Torch and I need to work on distractions that present themselves in this setting.

Looking forward to the Spring and Summer, this really should be fun.
