Winter/Spring 2009
The first half of 2009 on the surfaced seemed to start off horribly, but late winter and all of spring saw me spending time in state parks and painting the house. All
the super positive stuff that comes with life seems to have settled to focusing on taking the dogs out for hikes and training while Mike celebrated his 40th Birthday
and the home environment shaped up with new colors. So far 2009 has not been too bad.
The last couple of years have been odd for me since weekends were not planned around dog shows three months in advance, but family outings or gatherings.
Most of the super cool "2009 things" have centered around the dogs, but like that was a surprise to anyone? Getting back into the swing of Agility Trials and Breed
Shows, it is weird to see how many things have changed and what has remained the same. The funniest part is having to buy certain dog equipment such as canopies and
cleats for rainy weekends. I promised myself I would never go through that again.

While my "dog equipment inventory" grows with new stuff, I started to enter Niven in Agility and Torch in Breed. With the premiums coming in for the Breed Shows on
a regular basis, it has been easy to fill them out and send them in, but I had to get back into the swing of checking multiple web sites for when Agility trials were
scheduled. By the time I came up with a plan, most of the trials were closed and all I could do was enter ones still two to three months out. Needless to say, Torch
has been shown more so far, but two weekends are planned for Niven.
We did entered two TBAC Trials this year, mainly because I needed to work and figured I could show Niven since I was there. What transpired was a bunch of Novice Runs
that have enabled both of us to come together and Niven now needs one leg each for Novice Standard and Jumpers. As for FAST, entries did not get in fast enough or the
class was not offered, so she still needs two more legs for the title. Still, I am looking forward to our next trials to see if we can complete the last half of the
year in Open.
I wish I could say my idea to show Niven in Rally-O was still on course, but I am still trying to get back into the routine of driving distance and grooming time with
Torch. To have the distraction of having a second dog needing to be in the ring on the other side of the show grounds might be too much for all of us and I have
elected to stick with one at a time.

As for the Torch-man, we are attending Handling Class once a week, time permitting and having fun entering shows "here and there". I really am enjoying working with
him, as this Corgi really and truly puts his heart into anything that he does. I have not started any Performance Sport training with him purely because of his age and
most of what I train is physically demanding.
At just a year old, he spends more time chasing Niven around the yard or hanging out under my chair while outings to the park offer stretched legs and dragging
tongues. More important are these types of experiences to the little guys then me forcing strict focus for performance. At this point, I look forward to Torch's
future while having fun.
Sprout? Sprout is still Sprout. As stated before, she sleeps more now-a-days, but every now and then we find her bouncing her way across the deck in attempt to keep
up with the other two. The big adventure is normally making it halfway down the backyard, the trip of a life time was to the Lake at the beginning of June. In July
she will be thirteen, so her biggest performance sport is "breathing" and for that she gets a ton of treats. : D
As it is always, the second half of 2009 should be interesting.

Foxglen's Event Horizon NA NF
Niven
Attending Agility Class since January 2008, Niven has nearly completed the requirement for her Novice Jumpers Title. She has
completed the NA and NF with placements in Open.
We are also working on Rally-O and some Retrieving work, but Agility has been the focus, mainly due to training locations and availability. She is an awesome teammate
that I really enjoy working!

Corgard's Midnight Party at Foxglen
Torch
Torch is from Kandy Boll and Michele Pohl's Corgard Kennel. I am absolutely honored to have him come here and I look forward to the Breed Ring and the Performance
Sports after being away for so long.
This little guy puts his heart into everything he does, from barking at the wild rabbits to chasing down the Black Labrador Sheep.
For right now, my focus is letting him grow up and explore his world before getting
involved in formal training.

VBraun's Pippi Longstocking CGC
Sprout
Sprout is a Fluffy Corgi who came to live with us when she was about six years old. Having a different personality, she has greatly effected
the way I train and the reason for the understanding of the 'why'.
She has been run on Agility courses, but I never pursued serious training. I did however attend an obedience class where we began
work toward our Obedience CD. I had wanted to get her around Sheep to go for the Pembroke Herding Certified award, but unfortunately time was not on my side.
Currently Sprout resides under my desk or on the deck.

Crumpet
June 9, 1995 - January 15, 2008
After twelve and a half years, Crumpet has offered countless experiences and the stories to go with them. I have said over his lifetime he was
irreplaceable, his
ability to work countless hours at shows, trials and under foot the proof.
Crumpet has been the best friend anyone could have and I have the delight to say that he was mine. I am truly sorry to lose this guy, but take
solace in knowing
God got a good one to work with.

V Braun's Extra Jazz V Foxglen
Jazzy
May 10, 2000 - January 16, 2008
Jazzy was bred by Elizabeth Brown and remained with her. We had shown her in Breed, resulting in a few Class Placements. Her littermate, Victor, showed more
promise and became Betsy's focus.
During that time, Jazzy and I attended a few sessions of Obedience Class, she showing working promise of the dogs in her Pedigree. Time restraint kept me away from
all rings and I missed the opportunity to continue showing her.
Jazzy suffered serious effects from a major seizure that led Betsy to make the best decision. She is sorely missed.
