Wolves

Wolves are like many other animals. Dogs have decended from wolves, but yet dogs are "man's best friend." These wolves were domesticated more that ten thousand years ago to become dogs. Lions are known as "the king of the jungle." Both lions and wolves are great hunters. But people still don't like wolves even though they are like they are like other well known and respected animals.

The closest relatives to the wolf (Canis lupus) are domestic dogs, coyotes, jackals, and dingos which are dogs from Australia that can't bark.
The following are some species of wolves:
Timber Wolf (also known as the Gray Wolf)
Arctic Wolf (also known as the Tundra Wolf)
Mexican Wolf
Texas Gray Wolf
Rocky Mountain Wolf
Red Wolf
Eastern Timber Wolf
Great Plains Wolf (also called the buffalo hunter or the lobo wolf)
Dire Wolf (extinct)

Wolves are carnivourous. This means that they eat only meat. This means that they will have to hunt their food. Sometimes they will hunt with with the whole pack, sometimes with just a few members or by themselves. When by themselves, they usually hunt small prey, which include squirrels, ducks, fish, rabbits, beavers, and mice. With the whole pack, they hunt large prey which include caribou, deer, bighorn sheep, elk, moose, and musk-oxen.
