Shinji was not the kind to make friends easily and spent most of his free time alone, immersing himself in his school work and his music. When he received a letter from his father telling him to come to Tokyo 3, Shinji went as asked and was thrown head first into the Eva project and became the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit 01.
