SAC, Ahmedabad is one of the most
prestigious units of Indian Space Research Organisation
(ISRO), Department of
Space, fully financed by the Government of India. This centre is responsible
for conceptualization, planning and execution of projects/ programmes related
to practical applications of space technology for socio-economic development
of the nation. SAC as a major centre of ISRO spearheads the development of
technologies for thrust application areas of satellite communications and
remote sensing for earth resources and meteorological applications. World’s
most advanced cameras, and data products software for all Indian Remote
sensing Satellites (IRS) including the IRS-TES satellite have originated from
this centre. The centre has carried out major national remote sensing projects
in the country, which include nationwide crop production forecasting, mapping
the coastal environment, wetland and ground water prospect areas.
