Patient Support and Networks

Support from other sufferers who have the same disease and/or condtion that you do is essential; that I found it helpful is an understatement.  When I was 1st hit with having 'heart problems' at the age of 19 I felt very alone. I didn't think people my age got 'heart disease'. When I contacted local Heart Support Groups attached to my local hospital they replied by saying "we organise cardiac rehab programmes for those who have had heart attacks - we don't think its quite your thing". I still think that if you are able to find people locally to meet up with that is a wonderful resource to have. There is nothing quite like being able to ring someone for a chat when things are getting you down or you have a procedure coming up and you are looking for someone who has 'been there and done that'. I think not 'fitting' anywhere with local groups and needing to understand what had just happened to me during my 1st Cardiac EP (electrophysiology) Study 8 years ago made me reach out on the net.

I have never looked back.
