Suburban Sydney

Okay, so you are probably sick of seeing old sandstone buildings in the more touristy parts of Sydney. Apart from downtown Sydney, there is a lot more to my hometown. Sydney is a huge city, roughly 60km from east to west as the crow flies and about 50km from north to south. It is a green city with many trees, particularly in the north shore area. All the pictures below are from the Lower North Shore region of Sydney. This is the part of Sydney that I grew up in.

This is my parents' house back in the suburb of Top Ryde..

This is a view of the Parramatta River looking across towards the Sydney suburb of Rhodes.

A view of the Lower North Shore suburbs, Denistone and parts of West Ryde, in the foreground and southwestern Sydney in the background. This picture was taken from the top of Denistone Park about two kilometres from my parents' house.

Lane Cove National Park. This national park is located right in the heart of the Lower North Shore. It is only about five kilometres from my parents' place. It is also one of my favourite parks. When I had some spare time, I often went cycling in this park. This park is quite popular with the picnic an BBQ crowds on the weekends. You can also rent canoes and go for a bit of paddle on the Lane Cove River.

Macquire University as seen from a golf driving range adjacent to this very beautiful campus. I have never studied at this university as I got my undergraduate degree from the University of New South Wales and my masters from Deakin University in Melbourne. However, when I was a undergrad uni student, I used to go to the library at Macquire University to study. It is possible I may one day study here as I might decide in the future that it is necessary to get a doctorate to further my ELT career and Macquire University has a good applied linguistics programme.
