Katsucon 2007
- Location: Washington, DC
- Our Cosplay: Hunter x Hunter - Genei Ryoudan (The Spiders) [7 members]
- Panels Run: The Yaoi Aesthetic
- Cosplay Rating: 7.5 out of 10
- AMV Rating: 7.5 out of 10
- Video Track Rating: 7 out of 10
- Panels Rating: 8 out of 10
- Artist Alley: 8 out of 10
- Summary: We had long wanted to attend a slightly smaller convention than Otakon, and this one was a fabulous choice. We got together enough people to make a passable Spiders cosplay, half of which I'm surprised I finished in time. The overall quality of the cosplayers and fandom in general was higher than average. My camera was broken that weekend, so I'm waiting on pictures from others, but I'll have them eventually. Details to be added once I finish interviewing people with better memories.

Otakon 2007
- Location: Baltimore, MD
- Our Cosplay: "My trip to Kyoto" (aka, none) [Just me]
- Panels Run: none
- Cosplay Rating: 4 out of 10 Highlights Reel
- AMV Rating: n/a
- Video Track Rating: n/a
- Panels Rating: 6 out of 10
- Artist Alley: 8 out of 10
- Summary: This was an entirely impromptu convention, hence me not having a cosplay when dressing up in funny clothes I made myself is one of the main reasons I go to conventions at all. I only went because Seki Tomokazu was going to be there. I couldn't not go if Seki Tomokazu was going to be there. As it was, I was only able to go for Saturday, since I had to work on Friday and people were coming in to town to visit on Sunday, but I got my Saturday's worth. I didn't get to see the AMVs or anything in a video room, but the interview with Murakami Maki and of course with Seki Tomokazu were well worth it. It was a bit disappointing that the schedule was arranged so that you couldn't see Seki-san speak and get in line for an autograph, but if I had to pick knowing that in advance I'd do it the same way. Getting to see him answer questions and hear him doing impressions for an hour was the way to go. The big disappointment was that the person who was supposed to run "Anime Name That Tune" didn't show. It's always been one of my favorite panels, and I think I'm finally good enough to compete. But the audience managed to have fun anyway, hooking iPods into the speaker system to play random songs on hand. I spent a lot of time hanging out in Artists Alley, and as I've come to expect of Otakon there was a great deal of well-drawn art to be found.
As far as the cosplay goes, in a convention the size of a city in and of itself, you're not going to get consistently excellent cosplay on the majority of attendees, but there were still great ones to be found, including an Abe no Masahiro. I was so thrilled. I turned the pictures I had into a slideshow movie to show to all my friends who were reading Harry Potter instead (Highlights Reel above). This is just a rough video of a few costumes I liked, no quality control enforced, but I'll be typing up some notes later to at least identify series and character. It's been suggested that in the future I should make a more refined thing of that sort for conventions we attend, and I'll certainly consider it.

Yaoi-Con 2007
- Location: San Mateo, CA
- Our Cosplay: Weiss Kreuz Gluhen (Schwartz plus Omi) [4 Members]
- Panels Run: The Yaoi Aesthetic
- Cosplay Rating: 5 out of 10
- AMV Rating: 4 out of 10
- Video Track Rating: 6 out of 10
- Panels Rating: 8 out of 10
- Artist Alley: 5 out of 10
- Summary: The panels were a real highlight at this convention, when I'm generally disappointed by panels... it's all in choosing the right ones, I suppose. There was a panel on kitsuke (Wearing a Kimono 101) that was extraordinarily informative. Could have done with a site closer to a wider range of food choices, but overall the trip was not disappointing.

Katsucon 2008
- Location: Washington, DC
- Our Cosplay: 1) Prince of Tennis "Seigaku Uke Club" (Fuji, Kikumaru, Kaidou), 2) Ibu Shinji (also Prince of Tennis), 3) Yagami Light and Kaitou Dark (Death Note and DN Angel)
- Panels run: none
- Cosplay Rating: 8 out of 10
- AMV Rating: 6 out of 10
- Video Track Rating: didn't see any
- Panels Rating: 9 out of 10
- Artist Alley: 7 out of 10
- Summary: We were a bit disappointed not to make the finals in the AMV contest, but it was our first adventure in video-making. And boy was it an adventure. I learned quite a bit at the panels here as well, particularly a lecture on creating heroes and villains from the author of the Dominick Deegan webcomic, a few panels on AMV techniques using Photoshop and After Effects, and an excellent panel on prepping a cosplay for judging. When we put together our Tsubasa costumes for Katsucon 2010, we'll be applying a great deal from that panel. Our Prince of Tennis costumes were specifically from the Dream Live 1st musical, with the second act costumes on Sunday, but I'm afraid no one got it.

Otakon 2008
- Location: Baltimore, MD
- Our Cosplay: I dressed up as Lynn Minmay (Macross) on Sunday, but otherwise no big costumes
- Panels run: The Phenomenology of Ikari Shinji, The Yaoi Aesthetic
- Cosplay Rating: 5 out of 10
- AMV Rating: 7 out of 10
- Video Track Rating: didn't see any
- Panels Rating: 7 out of 10
- Artist Alley: 6 out of 10
- Summary: We decided to have a low-key Otakon this year, sidelining costumes to focus on putting together our panels and setting up a table in Artist Alley. We managed to choose our panels wisely, and all the ones we decided to attend were quite good. A particular favorite was the Industry/Fansubber Q and A panel, with representatives from Media Blasters, Funimation, Dattebayo, Shinsen Subs, and Live Evil. The whole discussion was straightforward, honest, rather funny, and I think informative for everyone concerned. I hope they decide to run that panel every year.

- Summary: Once everyone figured out how to ride the elevators efficiently, this was a very fun convention. The panels we ran went smashingly, and I'm hoping to get functioning versions of the presentations online here sometime soon. To be honest, it was among my least active conventions ever. I think we spent more time hanging out than rushing from place to place, but that was partially due to the fact that I didn't want to assume the elevator would get me anywhere on time. On the other hand, we're thinking of attending a smaller convention at the same hotel in November-ish. The hotel itself was quite nice.
