| General Information: | One of the most important reasons we, like many fans, go to conventions is to meet people who share an interest in the fandom and talk. A year or two back, that habit started leading to recommendations that we put together a panel on one or more of the topics we'd considered at length - an idea we'd thought about in the past. Since we could find no good reason not to try, we submitted several panel ideas to Katsucon (I think in 2007) and had our concept for The Yaoi Aesthetic accepted. Information and downloads related to all of our presentations will be made available here. You may also feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or requests. To anyone who has attended our panels, thank you very much for your interest. We've much enjoyed all the discussions we've had with other genre fans once the panels let out. |
| The Yaoi Aesthetic: | Our examination of the artistic choices and merits behind the power dynamics in relationships from both hardcore yaoi works and shows that either directly or indirectly make use of yaoi themes. Presented for: Katsucon 2007, YaoiCon 2007, Otakon 2008 Please note: the term "yaoi" refers to works that contain depictions of sexual activity between two men. While we take some care to examine the genre as an art form, not simply as pornography, the contents of this panel may not be suitable for persons under the age of 18.
Panelists: Beltenebra, Sumeria, Skinner |
| The Phenomenology of Ikari Shinji: | An open-discussion format philosophy panel, developed because we spent four years in college learning to have educated discussions and there are few things we enjoy more than applying that education to our favorite anime. The concept of the panel is to begin with an opening question among the panelists and maintain an open floor for anyone in the audience to raise their hand should they have a comment. As such, there is no detailed summary for this panel. We will, however, be making available the resource materials used to provide context notes during the presentation as soon as I can arrange for increased webspace. In the meantime, I will provide a few links to sites I've found quite valuable for research purposes. Presented for: Otakon 2008, Katsucon 2009
