| Saturday, May 17. Geez, it's September already and I'm so behind with these con reports. Lets see....where do begin with all of this wonderful Saturday goodness? The downpoint about starting this portion of the con journal so late is, well, everyone's already read everything they want to read about AN and want to move on to the next con, so why bother? The good part about it is that you don't have to sift through unimportant rambling because, by now, all of that stuff has fallen to the wayside and you're left with only the truly memorable. An observant reader will notice that this con report is slightly tainted with events that happened after-the-fact, but that can't be helped and I will not try to regain the mindset of yesterday. With that said, on to the con report. Wake-up time: 8:00 a.m., I believe. Brian was supposed to phone to wake me up at 8, I think, but I was already ready to go by the time he called (around 8:40, if I remember correctly). Hours of Sleep before con: 3 Costume(s): Embla von Prios (War of Genesis 3), Yuzuki (Chobits), Isshi (Kagrra), Monkey (Original) Merchandise Purchased: Kimahri statue (finally); X18 Well, I stayed up pretty late working on Isshi. He needed a lot of finishing touches (more than I had thought), including a lot of hammering and lacing. I packed up all my stuff before I finally rolled into bed, which included all of the above listed costumes as well as Setsuna for Sunday. Once I got there, Brian helped me take my stuff up to the jrock room and then rushed down to the dealer room. It was a long time before Reiciel and the others came to open up the jrock room, so I couldn't get into costume and instead crashed in the hallway for a while (I was so tired) and then Encubed and Lo let me into the Battle Royale room so I could rest there instead. I beat a hasty retreat when the contestants came in...I mean, how can you be comfortable in a room where they're bashing each other with inflatable bats with only salad bowls to protect themselves? :P lol. Reiciel and the others were planning to wear their War of Genesis outfits later on, so I got changed straight away into my Yuzuki costume. I spent a lot of the day with Greg (who was cosplaying Kamui) and often Karen as well. I only got to see one AMV and I again missed out on a lot of Dealer's Room time, but I had to wait in the lobby for photoshoots. These did NOT happen at their scheduled times, but that's just the way it goes. Instead there was a massive photoshoot sometime later in which everyone who was in costume ended up being crammed in. Unlike the MTCC, the Regal rather lent itself to that sort of photoshoot and it worked out quite well, in my humble opinion. While I was waiting for the photoshoots to happen, I got a hall cosplay award for my Yuzuki costume. The lady was very impressed with my wig. ^_^ I also got some pictures with Christine, who made a gorgeous artbook version of Chii. Monnie was my cute Kotoko for the day. ^_^ I managed to avoid some people I wished to avoid, but on the whole I ran into everyone I didn't want to run into. There were many awkward conversations and one time when I actually sought to avoid confrontation completely, I was chase down. So much for that. This would be onr eason why I had such a difficult time getting to the dealer room. *sigh* It is very unfortunate that this had to happen, but it was out of my hands. I'll just think happy thoughts like those few moments I had with Brian, glomping Kisa, Louise AND Xiola and the masquerade. I think I had such a hard time getting to Brian that, more often than not, he scared the hell out of me by appearing out of nowhere because he'd got away from the dealer room for a bit. Dave, you're so not leaving him in that room for that much of the time next year, alright? :P In any case, Brian was unfortunately very unsuccessful in getting me out of the aforementioned awkward situations. -_-; Thanks a lot, buddy. Oh well, so much for that. I'll fast-forward it a bit now to skip the other miscellaneous events and get to the real meat of the convention. Wow, was I nervous before the masquerade or what? I have very little co-ordination (I'm a bit of a klutz), so dancing, especially dancing as a synchronised group, was very daunting. I love my masquerade group, however, and they really helped me pull myself together. The wait before the masquerade wasn't that long as we were roughly in the middle of the pack. We did several practice runs beforehand and belatedly edited down our dance time to compensate for the time limit. Our den mother was wonderful, so I'd like to thank her, though I don't remember her name. We had a huge and very positive reaction upon our entrance on stage and I felt like I mastered my fears very well once wee were up there. I felt so happy to be doing that dance with Reiciel, Nurikyo, Gui and Lo...it was the best masquerade experience I've ever had. They faded the lights out before we were done, which was unfortunate, but we finished out dance anyway (perhaps they mistook the pause in music as the finish of the song, but we had timed it so that it was less than a minute, so I suppose that HAS to be the explanation). Afterward, there was much clapping as we headed off stage. Post-masquerade wasn't quite so peachy, unfortunately. Namely the annoying guys who chose to talk to us and also the fact that my future boyfriend didn't even stay to watch my masquerade skit. Grr. Had I held it against him, I guess we wouldn't be going out today....lol. Those annoying males kept insisting that we were from Sailormoon and I can't remember what else they said, but they decided that the fact that Izumi is blue, Akiya is red, etc. was proof that we were all from Sailormoon, regardless of what we told them. Idiots. I was very tired and collapsed on the floor in someone's room. Went over to the jrock room when we were supposed to go through our FULL dance, but no one was there, so I went back to my room and got changed (must've got my stuff from the jrock room earlier that day) into my monkey costume. Unfortunately, everyone else had already left and had not told me...thus locking me out of the room with the pizza. Having not really eaten all day (I think I might've eaten half of a brownie or something earlier that day? I know Brian bought something at the little concession stand, at any rate) I was very cranky by that time. My key wouldn't work on my room so I couldn't get back in there either. I trekked downstairs and proceeded to harrass everyone I knew...asking where Dave and Brian were as though it was my intention to murder them should I find them. :P I was VERY hungry. I also whined a lot at people about how hungry I was. I'm very sorry for doing that, guys and girls, but I hope you can forgive me. In any case, I finally did make it upstairs for pizza, though by that time I was so exhausted/stressed/worn-out that I think I started crying. -_-; Brian's a sweetheart, though, since he stayed with me for the rest of the night, pretty much. We wandered around a bit and sat around near the hentai room chatting and staring out the window. I think I might've got to dance with him at some point, but they didn't play slow songs at the dance (again) any time we were down there, so there wasn't much of an opportunity. During the dance I also chatted with someone who recognised me from YAMA (it never ceases to amaze me that people from YAMA continue to recognise me even though I've only been to two of their shows). That night I crashed with Mia and Winnie in a hotel room. Anna was supposed to be with us too, but she went missing in action. :P I would have liked to do that too, but I couldn't resist Mia and Winnie's company. ^_^ It was a pretty late night, but we were able to get some sleep, thankfully. |
