| Saturday, May 25. I was too tired on Saturday night (technically, Sunday morning) to write a con report, so this is all written from memory a week later. Thus, some of the details might have been lost and it might flip between present and past tense (I'm used to writing these in the present, but really this one should be in the past) Saturday started very late. This can be attributed to the fact that, despite setting my alarm for seven thirty or something around there, I managed to turn my alarm off at the right time, lie down for what I thought was going to be a few more minutes and then only manage to wake up again when my father asked me at ten thirty when I was planning to go to the convention. Oops. The thing is that the previous night, the UTMAnime people organised a breakfast thingy as a group at nine in the morning and I really wanted to go. T_T It's a lot easier to get to know people in a smaller group situation like at breakfast than it is when you're all watching a music video contest, after all. It's too bad that I slept in, really, though my body could've probably used the extra sleep. The Nanaki costume took a long time to prepare, since I needed to put on all the accessories, do my hair properly and put all the make-up on my face myself. Bardiel had agreed to do my arm tattoo for me when she arrived at the con, so I didn't have to worry about that until she actually showed up. I'd packed up the Kanako costume the night before, so that saved some time, luckily. One of the comments I made about Friday was that my feet hurt /a lot/, so I'll just mention right now that I was incredibly grateful that I'd given myself comfy shoes (sandals) to wear with the Nanaki costume. Maybe I should've made myself paws, though. Well, I helped out with security again, this time at the dealers' room entrance. While I was sitting there, a bunch of people wanted to take my picture (which was so nice...Thank you to everyone who took my picture ^o^ It provides some justification for how long I spent working on it (even though it looks so crappy it looks like I didn't spend any time at all x_x;;)) and I ran into another RED XIII! Imagine my surprise....O_o; I thought I was going to be the only one at the convention! In fact, I'd told people to look for RED XIII and that that would be me, since I'd be the only one there. Oops. Maybe that's why the people I told to walk up to me and say hi didn't...? Oh well. She's very nice and I just haven't got her email address from Bardiel yet, so I haven't stayed in touch as of yet. I hope you got back home safely! And congrats on the Masquerade award! ^___^ Not sure if you'd want me to say your real name here, so I'll just refer to ye as RED for now, 'k? lol. The Dealers room was a bit better today and I managed to see some stuff I wanted to get. I ended up buying a pack of Eva cards (they seem to never be in Kikiwai anymore, so I jumped at the chance to get them, even though they were $10), a chocobo plushie (Very cute!) for $15 (which is not cheap, but it's reasonable, considering plushies are usually incredibly expensive), the entire MAPS series subtitled for $15 and I got the nice saleslady at Kikiwai to hold onto the Seichirou plushie for me. I nearly passed out from excitement when Bardiel told me Kikiwai had X plushies. Too bad they didn't have Yuuto or Hinoto, but they had Satsuki and Aoki. Satsuki didn't look as good, so I got her to hang onto Aoki for me. ^__^ He looks like Yuuto....except with different coloured hair and eyes and Yuuto doesn't wear glasses. Hee hee. I also got the person at the table selling MAPS to hang onto a Record of Lodoss tape for me so I could check if I had it or not when I went home after the con. After working the entrance of the dealers room for a bit, I got called to the line-up for the dealers room (which had been moved to a hallway, so as to not block the main corridor) where Marc told me my new job was the lead the people at the front of the line to the dealers room. Hee hee, I have to argue with the "lovely lady" tittle Marc kept giving me (as in "Follow the lovely lady"), but it was fun. Bardiel showed up and drew on my tattoo while I was waiting for the next round to require leading to the dealers room entrance, so the pictures after that actually had my tattoo on. ^_^ Turf signed us all up for the Masquerade at some point that morning...*sweatdrops* Anyway, this is where my memory starts to fail to differentiate between what happened on Saturday and what happened on Sunday. Hmm, well, I think all the stuff I went to see happened on Sunday, so I'll just continue from where we all went to dinner. I think I asked Turf what was up and he told me they were heading out to dinner, since the Masquerade check in was at six. Oh, that reminds me (I'll return to this point after I say this)...I went for the FF/DBZ meetup in the lobby, but the only people really there were SMA and bonus Tidus...and my little group, that I'd dragged along, with bonus RED XIII in tow (lol). I got to huggle a moogle! A big, furry moogle! And I'll do it again if given the chance! ^o^ (FF games are great, but it's hard to get a sense of furriness from a game) Ooh, I haven't talked about costume worshipping yet...Hmm, I guess I'll do that later. Anyway, if there was a big group photo for the FF meetup, I missed it. I also managed to JUST miss the CCML photo thingy that I really, really wanted to be in. Back to dinner. I managed to grab Bardiel and Bardiel's-clone (meh, not a good nickname, but it'll do) and we went to dinner with the UTM people...You know, I feel kind of bad, but I don't know the name of that girl who was there....*sweatdrops* It would've been a bit awkward to ask, so I didn't. Eh heh...I feel guilty now, though. *sheepish* Dinner went alright....the service was a /bit/ slow, but not too bad and probably only seemed slow because we were in a big hurry. I didn't eat much, since for some reason I wasn't hungry at all, but I did manage to eat something, which probably sustained me for the rest of the night/day. Because we finished dinner late, I missed the Toronto Anime Con's photo, unfortunately. I was really disappointed that I managed to miss all the photos. T_T The Masquerade order was determined at random, I think. We didn't manage to get a seat in the green room, so after getting out pic taken and lining up for workmanship awards, we stood around and/or squatted beneath the water jugs (which lead to my tail flame getting soaked T_T). It was extremely cold and I spent most of the time a) bored to death, b) shivering so much I thought my ears would fall off and c) trying to avoid people trying to dump water on me (okay, so they weren't trying, but they had damn good aim for people not trying). We ended up being #86 (just before SMA) and the wait seemed to last forever...I should've either gone to talk to people or gone to watch the video feed of the Masquerade in the Mercury room. Too late now, though. It was so cold...T_T Well, obviously it was only cold for some people, since costumes, of course, vary in their warmth-ness. I kept whining to Rufus and Hojo about how cold I was and how I wanted to drag one of the UTM people in there so I could huggle them for warmth....well, or the moogle (didn't realise that was you at the time, Eric. XP) but the guys were too inaccessible (wouldn't have asked, anyway) and I was too scared to venture into the midst of all those beautiful SMA costumes. lol....I just remembered something...It took me a damn long time to realise "Hey, that must be Squiddy" Kisa, Squiddy looked awesome! XD You know what? I keep having to make this page longer because I keep babbling, so I'm going to make another con report section about costumes and such, so I don't end up making this even longer. After waiting more than four hours (I think, since we had to sign in at 6 and it was after ten when we went up), we finally were ushered into the back corridor. During the wait, we'd cooked up a bit of a mini-skit, to avoid doing just a walk-on. It was the stupidest idea ever and guess who the one pushing us to do a skit was? Yep, I'm the idiot in question. Oh boy...*cowers in shame* >_<; I'm glad that's over with. After that was over with, Hojo, Rufus and Hakai had to leave. Blah, you know, I just realised I'm leaving a whole bunch of people out....Well, I guess that's what that extra section's for, right? Eh heh...*sweatdrops* Got changed into Kanako costume for the dance....Turns out the hot glue didn't bond to the fabric very well, so it kind of fell apart after a bit. (so embarrassing, but at least Kanako wears shorts under her skirt, right? Of course, I sitll looked like an idiot, which sort of works...-_-;). I didn't dance, but I wasn't the only one, so everything was cool. ^_^ I kept waiting for a slow dance, but all the songs were so fast and upbeat and grr....>_< *is whining again* Sorry! The con finished very late and I didn't crawl in the door until four in the morning. Once again, I failed to phone my father, who was none too pleased. I don't think he'll let me do that next year....^^;;;;; One last thing: Rufus' awesome hand-sewn costume won our little group a workmanship award! Congrats! (I feel kind of guilty, since we all got an award even though the award was really just for you). |
