After much negotiating, I managed to get a note to allow me to skip as much of the afternoon of school as I wanted to. I ended up skipping last period only, since I felt a little guilty for skipping at all. The reason I got out of school early is because I go to school in the neighbouring city and I needed time to get home and prepare for the convention. I also wanted to get there early, since I really hate being late. I didn't actually have very much time between when I got home and when I had to leave for the con, since it was four by the time I got home (I took public transit) and I needed to shower before getting into costume for the con. I loaded up my suitcase (hooray for transportable carrying space...lol) and went off to the con. I was supposed to meet various people fro my school as well as meeting the two other cosplayers making up Saturday's FFVII group at the convention at 5:30 in the lobby, but that didn't work out. In fact, just saying that it didn't work out is quite the understatement. I also had a lot of problems signing in with security, but now I've got a spiffy big red badge and I get to stalk suspicious characters. Whee...I didn't purchase anything or watch anything or get to do anything at the con aside from monitoring people exiting the dealers room. I spent most of the day walking between the lobby and the security office, waiting for Bardiel and the person she was coming with and counting people exiting the dealers room. When I got a break, however, I got to go and see the AMV contest which, while it wasn't as good as last year by any stretch, was still fun. Of course, the alternative video contest after the AMV contest was....bizarre. Most people left during the course of the AMV contest, but one person I kenw remained out of the group of us who'd gone in together at the beginning (not sure if I should use your real name here or not...? ^^;). bardiel and (I need to think of a nickname for her so I can stop calling her "that person"...grr...) had to leave after a few videos, but at least I was able to snag a bun from them (aside from a few sticks of Pocky, that was my only nourishment for the entire day). *sighs* It was a very long contest and I really wanted to see the Doki Doki entry. Hopefully, I'll get to see it tomorrow, since they'll be showing the entire contest again...Of course, I'm not sure that I want to sit through the entire thing again, since there weren't really too many outstanding ones. The Survivor spoof was quite amusing, though, especially since one of my friends is named Keith...lol. "The Tribe has spoken." lol. The best part was actually what was shown after the horrendously long contest was over: a documentary on Otakon (2001?). The Otakumentary ruled! XD It was absolutely hilarious! That ended really, really late and I didn't have a chance to phone myf ather until after it was over, which was a big sort of "EEEP!!!"...Eh heh heh...*sweatdrops* Hmm, what else of note? Oh, a lot of people asked for my photo...that was amazing, since I wasn't even sure anyone would recognise the character, since the series is so new. Actually, a half hour after I arrived, I spotted a second The Paper, who's affiliated with the Psycho Fangirls (I ran into some of those crazy girls in the hallway...lol. You all rock! ^_^). I can't wait to see their costumes tomorrow...! I wonder if any of the people I talk about in my con write-ups actually read these reports? Ah well, it doesnt' really matter, since this is just a random convention journal among many. I didn't realise helping with security would be so taxing...Last year, Bardiel and I just had to walk around the dealers room and got to take breaks whenever we wanted to, basically. This year it's serious stuff (I even had to learn how to use a radio. I'm awful with technology x_x;). But I met Marc this year (Security 3! ^_^v See? I remember! I think...lol) and he's from Mississauga, used to work near me and is another very nice security dude! ^_^ Gooooooooooooo Marc! Hee hee. He told me I should enter the Masquerade...Well, since Bardiel, so-far-nicknameles person, Turf and I didn't get a chance to talk together about the Masquerade (Turf is cosplaying Milly from Trigun, but, since we don't have a skit planned anyway, he wants to join us for the Masquerade)...that's kind of up in the air. Didn't get home for a while...Time to finish the Kanako costume! XD Of course, that would require prying myself away from ICQ...Eh heh...Nemo, I can't believe you just started your costume today. You're insane! =P It was great seeing all of you UTM people again. ^_^ |
