8. SOUND INTENSITY PROBE (ANSI S12.12)

The sound intensity probe essentially consists of a two 12 mm diameter microphone holder with a center distance of 15 mm. The microphone holder is perfectly machined to fine tolerances in the local shops. This is a very inexpensive substitute to the conventional imported probes, which are very costly. The microphone pair is amplitude and phase calibrated in the plane wave impedance tube for sound intensity measurements. The sound intensity thus measured can be used to calculate the radiated sound power as per the ANSI 12.12 standard
