The last 12 months have been a whirlwind for InMe. Loved and loathed in equal proportions by their fans and the music press, but never far from the limelight; this years success has been capped by appearances at some of the biggest rock festivals in the country. But despite the double headf**k of fame and notoriety, InMe seem remarkably unruffled by the kickbacks. At Leeds Festival 2003, Ruth meets a band (the odd penchant for spandex aside) unrecognisable the shy nave new signings she met 12 months ago. And you are..?
Im Simon from InMe and were here at the Leeds festival 2003.

So you played Reading last night how was that?
It was fantastic. I was quite surprised, the amount of people there for the time of day, cos it was the very ungodly hour of 12 oclock. The whole crowd were up for it. But today, I think everyone was more hungover from last night, and it was great. Yesterday I was watching bands from the side of the stage, just watching the crowd go further and further until Linkin Park came on, and you couldnt see the end of the crowd. It was just mental.

So is this the first time youve done the Carling Weekender?
Yeah. Its the first time weve ever been to the festival!
Really?
(laughs)Im always busy doing something. I always missed out and wanted to go.
Pfft! You were just too broke!
Yeah alright (laughs). So my first ever Reading experience was stepping out on the main stage!

Thats quite a decent first Reading experience!
Its not a bad start, yeah!

People seem to be divided into a kind of love-hate relationship with you guys at the moment
Yeah ughs)
How do you feel about that?
Well we cant expect everyone to love us, and you cant expect everyone to hate us, so you just sort of go with it. Im not going to try and really push it on anyone. Were just going to put our music out there. If people want it, they can have it, and if they dont, they can throw eggs at us like they did today.
They threw eggs?
We got an egg thrown onstage. It was a really awful shot, actually, It was completely miles away from anyone in the band.

Who are you most looking forward to seeing today?
Well, all the bands that are on today, I watched yesterday.

Okay then, which ride are you most looking forward to going on today, then?
That one up there, the big one that spins round. You cant see it. The band Im most looking forward to again is The Darkness. Huge huge fan of The Darkness. You can never see them enough. Its cos I like my old rock as well, my old classic rock. Im a big fan of my classic rock, and they replicate it with some sort of new edge to it. And its just great! You cant beat a bit of spandex (laughs).

How can you like spandex? It mings!
Its great! Being a Maiden fan, and Kiss, and Black Sabbath, you get to see all of them and you get sort of used to the spandex thing. I mean, youve seen Spinal Tap, the film? Theres spandex in there! Its great! Theres loads of it. I mean Im not the kind of person who would wear it on stage. But its great, just seeing peoples spandex. It just shows they dont care about anything. They just go and do what they want.

What are your Top Five Tips for a great festival?
Make sure you bring at least three crates of alcohol. And a caravan, because I cant stand tents anymore Ive been in enough tents in my life. Third one Dont wear dark trousers, and pack some spare underwear.

Whats your favourite festival?
Favourite one Ive been to? Probably the Glastonburys Ive been to. Theyre cool. But the favourite one this year that weve played, is probably Download. Because this is the first year weve started playing festivals, and Download was our first ever festival. And we played in front of 50,000 people or something stupid. And that was a major endorphine rush, so that was probably my favourite one this year.

What do you think about when youre onstage?
What Joe will hit in next. Thats about it, really! (laughs)

Any last words?
Errr Im really bad at this sort of thing Improvisation Erm I dunno. Keep rocking and go and destroy some more venues with your insane moshing that you lot do.

Thank you very much!
